Israeli PM flew to Saudi Arabia to meet Mohammed bin Salman and the US’s Mike Pompeo
Benjamin Netanyahu has made an unannounced trip to Saudi Arabia to meet the Saudi crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, and the US secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, according to an Israeli cabinet member.
The Sunday night visit marks the first reported meeting between leaders of the long-time foes, one that Israel has been pushing for in its efforts for regional acceptance despite previously being considered a far-fetched ambition.

UK accuses China of stripping Hong Kong of basic rights and breaking international treaty
Territory facing a future of ‘chilling effects’, says Foreign and Commonwealth Office, as activist trio are placed in custody
The Chinese government is forcing Hong Kong into a dark and uncertain future by systematically stripping its people of basic political, economic and cultural rights, a report by the Foreign Office in London has charged.
The gravity of the situation, said Dominic Raab, the foreign secretary, has led him to begin consultation with the lord chancellor on whether British judges should discontinue sitting on the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal and also reiterate that the arms embargo to China and the territory will remain in place.
The document’s charting of repressive measures in the territory comes as three prominent activists were placed in custody in a court case, and warned by the authorities that they can expect prison sentences for taking part in unauthorised protests outside a police station last year.
Covid-19 pandemic triggers global spike in violence against women
No country has been spared the coronavirus epidemic, nor the scourge of domestic violence, which has surged during lockdowns as the day marking such violence approaches on Wednesday.
From a spike in rapes in Nigeria and South Africa, increased numbers of women missing in Peru, higher rates of women being killed in Brazil and Mexico and overwhelmed associations in Europe: the pandemic has aggravated the plague of sexual violence.
According to UN data released in late September, lockdowns have led to increases in complaints or calls to report domestic abuse of 25 percent in Argentina, 30 percent in Cyprus and France and 33 percent in Singapore.
Climate change: Covid pandemic has little impact on rise in CO2
By Matt McGrath
Environment correspondent
The global response to the Covid-19 crisis has had little impact on the continued rise in atmospheric concentrations of CO2, says the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
This year carbon emissions have fallen dramatically due to lockdowns that have cut transport and industry severely.
But this has only marginally slowed the overall rise in concentrations, the scientists say.
The details are published in the WMO's annual greenhouse gas bulletin.
New Jersey Lawmaker Pushes To Disbar Rudy Giuliani For Deceitful, 'Absurd' Election Cases
New Jersey Democratic Rep. Bill Pascrell has filed a complaint with New York’s attorney disciplinary officials, calling for the disbarment of Rudy Giuliani for “fraud” and “deceit” in his actions attempting to overturn the presidential election without any justification.
“Mr. Giuliani has participated in the filing of a series of absurd lawsuits seeking to overturn the will of the voters ... and has caused irreversible damage to the public trust in the fair administration of our elections,” Pascrell wrote Friday to the Grievance Committee for three New York Judicial Districts.
