Before Capitol Riot, Republican Lawmakers Fanned the Flames
Standing before a crowd of thousands of MAGA-clad protesters on the National Mall on Wednesday, Rep. Mo Brooks roared out a message that he said members of Congress who dared to accept President-elect Joe Biden’s victory needed to hear.
“Today is the day American patriots start taking down names and kicking ass,” said Brooks, R-Ala. “Are you willing to do what it takes to fight for America? Louder! Will you fight for America?”
Hours later, urged on by President Donald Trump at the same rally, rioters stormed the Capitol, where Congress was meeting to formalize Biden’s election, chanting “Hang Mike Pence,” threatening to shoot House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and forcing lawmakers to evacuate the building in a scene of violence and mayhem. Afterward, police officers recovered long guns, Molotov cocktails, explosive devices and zip ties. At least five people, including a Capitol Police officer, died during the protests and the siege and in the immediate aftermath.
Hong Kong’s leader has defended the unprecedented mass arrest of opposition figures last week, and accused western powers of hypocrisy for condemning the siege on the US Capitol after supporting pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong.
At a weekly press briefing in Hong Kong on Tuesday, Carrie Lam was asked about the coordinated police raids last Wednesday, when 55 opposition figures were arrested on suspicion of breaching the national security law by holding unofficial primaries ahead of the since-postponed Hong Kong election. The raids were the latest use of the national security law against the pro-democracy movement.

Authorities say the darknet platform had half a million users, where drugs, counterfeit money, stolen credit card data, anonymous SIM cards and malware were traded. The suspected operator was arrested in Germany.
German prosecutors in the cities of Koblenz and Oldenburg said on Tuesday that they had shut down what was "probably the largest illegal marketplace on the Darknet" called DarkMarket and arrested the man believed to operate it near Germany's border with Denmark.
The detained man, believed to be DarkMarket's operator, is a 34-year-old Australian national.
A leading Israeli human rights group has begun describing Israel and its control of the Palestinian territories as a single “apartheid” government, using an explosive term that the country’s leaders and their supporters vehemently reject.
In a report released on Tuesday, B’Tselem said Israel has created a system in which Jewish citizens enjoy full rights, but Palestinians living in Israel’s four areas of control have different levels of rights – depending on where they live – are always below the Jewish people.

President Donald Trump is leaving America in a vortex of violence, sickness and death and more internally estranged than it has been for 150 years.
