 Attack on Manchester synagogue that killed 2 is being treated as terrorism, UK police say

What we know so far

• A car ramming and stabbing attack outside a synagogue in the northern UK city of Manchester left two members of the Jewish community dead and four others hospitalized, according to police.

• It took place on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

• The suspected attacker is also dead after being shot by officers, Manchester police said. The suspect wore a vest that “had the appearance of an explosive device,” according to authorities.

• The attack has been declared a “terrorist incident.” Two people have been arrested in connection with the attack, police said, without offering further information.

A slice of Pablo Escobar’s once-lavish ranch – a symbol of the drug lord’s enormous wealth and home to his infamous “cocaine hippos” – is being given to women who suffered in Colombia’s armed conflict, announced Gustavo Petro, the president.

Escobar, Colombia’s most notorious narco-trafficker and former head of the powerful Medellín cartel, became one of the richest men in the world in the late 1980s, with Forbes magazine estimating his fortune at $25bn.

Indonesia school collapse: 'No signs of life' detected

Nearly 60 students are still missing after a school collapsed in Java. Rescuers have switched to using heavy machines to clear out debris as the clock is running out to find survivors.

Detecting "no more signs of life," rescuers in Indonesia on Thursday decided to use heavy machinery to remove the debris of the school that collapsed on Monday.

A part of the multi-story building of the school in Java collapsed on Monday while students gathered for prayers in the afternoon.

Five students were rescued on Wednesday, but nearly 60 teenage students are still missing, sparking fears that none of them survived the accident.

Global Sumud Flotilla: Latest bid to break Gaza blockade drew activists from across the world
