BioNTech aims to develop mRNA-based malaria vaccine

 Vaccine makers are ramping up production. Yet, not enough of the product is made to keep everyone safe from COVID. The US and the EU are thinking about waiving patent protection to allow others to produce generic versions of proven vaccines.

“Even though this new variant has multiple mutations, only one percent of this protein is changed. And that means 99 percent are still the same,” Biontech CEO Ugur Sahin told DW. He said his company needed two weeks to determine whether the vaccine can inactivate it.
