Trump pardons Roger Stone, Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner's father

Donald Trump has pardoned another 26 people in his second major wave of clemency actions in fewer than 48 hours.

In an audacious application of presidential power to reward loyalists, the US president pardoned his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, his longtime adviser Roger Stone, and Charles Kushner, the father of his son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner.

 Not a single person on this deserved any clemency.

Roger Stone, President Trump's longtime friend and associate, faces sentencing today following his conviction on seven felony charges, including lying to Congress and obstructing House and FBI investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Jackson denounces Stone's actions as she delivers sentence

Judge Amy Berman Jackson defended the congressional investigation into Russian interference and the prosecution of Roger Stone’s case.

“There was nothing unfair, phony or disgraceful about the investigation or the prosecution,” Jackson said. “Witnesses do not get to decide for themselves whether Congress is entitled to the facts.”

She also argued Stone’s disregard for the truth should worry all those who care about American democracy.

“The dismay and disgust at the defendant’s belligerence should transcend party,” Jackson said.

The former Trump associate will also be required to pay a $20,000 fine.

As she delivered her sentence, Judge Amy Berman Jackson delivered a defense of facts, accusing Roger Stone of disregarding them in his case.

“The truth still exists. The truth still matters,” Jackson said. “Roger Stone’s insistence that it doesn’t, his pride in his own lies are a threat to the very foundation of this democracy.”

Despite America’s current divisions, Jackson said that the condemnation of Stone’s disregard for the truth “should transcend both parties.”

Prosecutors Withdraw From Roger Stone Case After DOJ Walks Back Sentencing

President Donald Trump publicly raged against the proposed prison term for his longtime adviser.

The Department of Justice is walking back its sentencing recommendation for President Donald Trump’s longtime adviser Roger Stone, according to a Fox News report citing an unnamed senior DOJ official. Federal prosecutors Aaron S.J. Zelinsky, Adam C. Jed, Jonathan Kravis and Michael Marando withdrew as government counsels in the case following the report.

The more lenient recommendation would be a rapid turnaround after federal prosecutors said on Monday that Stone should face seven to nine years for witness tampering and lying to Congress. But that was before Trump publicly raged against the prosecutors, tweeting that “this miscarriage of justice” cannot be allowed.

After being convicted on seven counts including lying to Congress and threatening a witness with physical harm Donald Trump rage twitting at two o'clock in the morning about the injustice of it all. Thereby putting pressure the DOJ which led to this ridiculous climb down.
