How should the media cover America's racist extremists? (You can listen to the program)

Guardian US and WNYC’s On the Media collaborated on a radio episode looking the coverage of neo-Nazis and white nationalists

In August, hundreds of white men with torches marched across the University of Virginia campus. They chanted “Jews will not replace us!” and “Blood and soil!” and fought with counter-protesters in the streets.

The footage and photographs from the far-right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, left people around the world shaken. These were white nationalists and neo-Nazis marching proudly in public, faces bare, in support of an openly fascist ideology.

For months before the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, news outlets had been profiling the emboldened racist extremists who had celebrated the election of Donald Trump. The coverage had often sparked backlash, with readers across the political spectrum arguing that fringe racists were being given too much of a platform, and that media coverage was blowing their influence out of proportion.

Tina Fey made a surprise appearance on SNL's Weekend Update to talk about her alma matter, the KKK, Nazis, and "Donny John Trump," a name she pronounced really stupid-sounding.

She didn't hold back, either. Via Gossipcop.com:

“He condemns violence on many sides and I’m feeling sick ’cause I’ve seen Raiders of the Last Ark and wasn’t confused by it. Nazis are always bad. I don’t care what you say.”

Noting that white supremacists have other protests scheduled, Fey admitted, “Part of me hopes these neo-Nazis do it in New York City. I hope they do try it and get the ham salad kicked out of them by a bunch of drag queens.” She added, however, “At the same time, I don’t want any more good people to get hurt.” And with everyone “anxious” and asking “what can I do?” she encouraged people to “find a local business you support, maybe a Jewish-run bakery or an African-American-run bakery. Order a cake with an American flag on it, and just eat it.”

When Colin Jost questioned how that would help, she shot back, “Love is love, Colin.” Fey went on to stress-eat a cake then and there as she continued to rant about recent events. In regards to white supremacists wanting to “take” back the country,” she pointed out, “We stole it from the Native Americans, and when they have a peaceful protest in Standing Rock, we shoot at them with rubber bullets.” She again emphasized that “the other size is Nazis and Klansman,” and bluntly stated, “And also, who drove the car into the crowd? Hillary’s emails?”

A car rammed into a group of people peacefully protesting against a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Saturday, killing one person and injuring 19.

Donald Trump condemned the “violence on many sides” in the city and the state’s governor has declared a state of emergency.

Witnesses said those hit by the car were people peacefully protesting the planned white supremacist rally and footage showed the vehicle crashing into another car, throwing people over the top of it.

The driver was later arrested, authorities said.

It's going to be a long, hot summer as white nationalists and counter-protestors square off

The writings on its walls offer testament to Portland’s wretched spring. “Tell everyone on this train I love them,” stands out in pink above a makeshift memorial of flowers and candles and myriad other messages written in chalk outside a light-rail station in the city’s northeast.

Several miles away in Chapman Park in the city centre two fresher messages adorn the brick of a public lavatory in spite of efforts to scrub them away. “F**k Cops No Exceptions” is one, written in thick black marker. The other reads: “Stab a Nazi, Twice”, beside a smiley face.

Towards the of the video one the alt-right (racists) idiots starts spouting off about  how America is no longer a majority white country thanks to immigrants (He didn't use the term immigrants to describe the people he hates.) from various regions of the world.   

Of course this wouldn't be a pro Trump demonstration without uttering crap or wearing shirts proclaiming that CNN is ISIS.
