Australian border to reopen for first time since Covid


 

Australia will reopen its international border from November, giving long-awaited freedoms to vaccinated citizens and their relatives. Since March 2020, Australia has had some of the world's strictest border rules - even banning its own people from leaving the country.

The Swedish model for fighting COVID-19


 Sweden has both mandatory and voluntary covid restrictions. Residents who can, are asked to stay home. There's a ban on serving alcohol in the evening. Masks are only recommended during rush hour. There have been more than 12,000 Covid-19 deaths in a population of just ten million.

The Prime Minister has warned that coronavirus restrictions in England may need to be tightened over the next few weeks, to reduce the rising numbers of infections. Boris Johnson also defended the government’s determination to keep schools open where possible.

There's growing pressure on the four home nations of the United Kingdom to look again at the easing of Covid restrictions over the Christmas period. Two leading medical journals have joined forces to warn that the decision to ease the rules for a 5-day period is “rash” and will “cost many lives”.
