Protesters face police across Iran – video report

More than 570 protests have taken place across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency reported on Sunday. An internet shutdown imposed by the authorities on Thursday has largely cut the protesters off from the rest of the world, but videos that trickled out of the country showed thousands of people demonstrating.

Activists have said verification of reported human rights violations is difficult. However, one activist in Tehran told the Guardian they had witnessed security forces firing live ammunition at protesters and saw a 'very high' number killed, while other activists said the claims of police brutality were consistent with testimony they had been given

Internet blackout in Iran: Drop in connectivity as nationwide protests intensify


Iran is experiencing a nationwide internet blackout as protests ramp up. That's according to the online watchdog Netblocks. The group's confirmed a sharp drop in connectivity after 12 days of street protests, sparked by the worsening economy. Activists and rights groups say at least 39 people have been killed across the country. More than 2 thousand others have been detained.

Iran: Several people killed as protest across the country escalate


An Iranian news agency says several people have been killed during escalating clashes between protesters and security forces in the west of the country. This comes a day after a volunteer member of the Revolutionary Guard was reported killed. Social media footage shows some of the latest demonstrations, which have now entered a fifth day. What began as protests over runaway inflation, has quickly turned into a larger show of anger against the country's authoritarian regime.

Protests, strikes after Iran’s economic situation rapidly deteriorates


Iran says it is seeking dialogue with protest leaders after a third day of unrest, sparked by a record drop in the national currency's value. Demonstrations began on Sunday after shopkeepers in Tehran's Grand Bazaar walked off the job. University students have joined in on the rallies. Demonstrations have now spread to several cities across the country with residents angered by the high cost of living.

The US, UK and EU have announced new sanctions on Russia, two years after its invasion of Ukraine. The measures also marked a week since the death in custody of opposition leader Alexei Navalny. President Vladimir Putin has claimed European sanctions have done Russia no harm, saying: "We have growth, and they have decline." The International Energy Agency says Russia is still exporting 8.3 million barrels of oil a day - having increased supplies to India and China.
