Six men charged in alleged plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer

 The FBI was apparently well aware of the activities of the men charged Thursday and there does not seem to have been an imminent threat posed to the governor.

First, how long will it take before Donald Trump and the usual crowd of Republican cowards come forward to not only defend these fools, but start promoting them as patriots.  

This is the type of lawless behaviour that Donald Trump has encouraged starting with his announcement to run, throughout the campaign and has continued through his time in office.  Even though his rhetoric had led to violence against those in opposition to his polices. Republicans in general and Donald Trump in particular have failed to condemn those involved. 

An FBI-led investigation identified six men who were trying to plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

The investigation involved multiple confidential sources and undercover FBI personnel.

Based on court documents, the FBI was well aware of the activities of the men charged Thursday and there does not seem to have been an imminent threat posed to Gov. Whitmer, a Democrat.

The documents identify the defendants as Adam Fox, Barry Croft, Ty Garbin, Kaleb Franks, Daniel Harris, and Brandon Caserta.

At a meeting in July, allegedly attended and recorded by one of the confidential sources, the men “discussed attacking a Michigan State Police facility, and in a separate conversation after the meeting, Garbin suggested shooting up the Governor’s vacation home," authorities allege.

  

Gunshots heard after demonstrators try to topple conquistador statue in New Mexico

A man was shot after a scuffle broke out when demonstrators tried to remove a bronze sculpture of a Spanish conquistador outside a museum in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A group of armed men had tried to protect the statue of Juan de Oñate. The injured man was in a critical but stable condition, police said.

Authorities later announced the monument would be removed until the next step could be determined

It's just amazing how much the authorities in the United States tolerate armed right wing militia's.  They invade public spaces all for the purpose of intimidation and instilling fear in those who are opposed to their agenda. In Michigan when these groups invaded the state capitol Donald Trump instead of objecting to their methods he encouraged them.  During the Obama administration the Department of Homeland Security issued a report which showed that most of the terrorists acts in the country were committed by right wing groups or individuals associated with them. Of course conservatives were outraged and they forced the withdrawal of the report.

Jim Benvie is the leader of a controversial armed vigilante group in the US. Heavily-armed members of this group go out every night to find and detain people crossing the border. Human rights organizations are outraged. Some of the armed vigilante groups in the US are accused by the media of having connections to the far right. The groups say that this is "fake news" and yet many members cover their faces and refuse to reveal their identities. The groups operate in a gray zone. They are allowed to carry weapons in New Mexico, but not to point it at people. But an assault rifle aimed at the ground also has a very intimidating impact. The groups are not allowed to arrest people. This is the task of the US Border Patrol. Officially, this latter does not work with the vigilantes. Unofficially, it is clear that they are cooperating.
