'Massive' Russian air attack hits Western Ukraine, Kyiv • FRANCE 24 English

Ukraine claimed Sunday (March 24) to have hit two Russian military ships stationed at the annexed peninsula of Crimea in overnight strikes, as it suffered another night of Russian aerial attacks. Ukraine's capital Kyiv and the western region of Lviv came under a "massive" Russian air attack, officials said, while Poland said one of the Russian missiles breached its airspace.

China has carried out mass simulated missile strikes on Taiwan, in military exercises that included “sealing off” the island. Taiwan considers itself a sovereign state. China sees it as a breakaway province that will eventually be brought under Beijing's control - by force, if necessary. Beijing began the exercises after Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen met the US House Speaker in California, which China described as an act of “collusion” by the United States.

Soleimani assassination: US airbase in Iraq hit by rockets in retaliation

An airbase housing US troops in Iraq has been hit by rockets, according to the US Department of Defence.

Iranian state TV says the attack is a retaliation after the country's top commander Qasem Soleimani was killed in a drone strike in Baghdad on Friday, on the orders of US President Donald Trump.

The Al-Asad base has been hit by multiple rockets.

The White House is monitoring the attack.

It is unclear if there have been any casualties.

"We are aware of the reports of attacks on US facilities in Iraq. The president has been briefed and is monitoring the situation closely and consulting with his national security team," White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said in a statement.

When he authorized the attack that killed Gen.
