Opposition Liberal-Democratic Party (LDP) leader Shinzo Abe arrives for a press conference in Tokyo on Friday night. Abe, who had a one-year stint as prime minister in 2006 and 2007, now has a chance to return if the LDP wins the most seats in the upcoming Dec 16 election. The poster reads: “We’ll get back Japan.”
Does that phrase "We'll get back Japan." seem remind you of a similar uttered phrase by another party? Say, America's Republican party who throughout President Obama's first term claimed they would take back America as if someone had hijacked the country.
Shinzo Abe is an Ultra Nationalist who like many members of his xenophobic party would like to amend Japan's pacifist Constitution allowing for Japan to once again have armed forces just like the rest of the world.
