Mueller report: Democrats keep pressure on Trump over Russia

Democrats are keeping up pressure on President Donald Trump following the long-awaited release of a report into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
They want Robert Mueller, the man who collated the report, to publicly testify before congress about the work he has done.
The redacted report, which was released on Thursday, reveals the president tried to get Mr Mueller fired.
Mr Trump's legal team has described its release as a "total victory".
Russia's Foreign Ministry, meanwhile, has dismissed the findings of the report, saying it failed to find evidence proving Moscow meddled in the election.

Italian broadcaster's plans for gender-based channels spark fury

Rai’s proposals to show different content to men and women condemned as sexist

Italian state broadcaster Rai has sparked fury over a proposal to create separate male and female TV channels.
A reorganisation of some of the company’s channels as part of its strategic plan could result in one airing shows and films geared more towards men, and one aimed at women.
A source at Rai said the plan was about repositioning programmes to better target male and female audiences, rather than gender segregation, but the potential move has been lambasted by opposition MPs and women’s groups.

Mali prime minister resigns after Ogossagou massacre

Amid tribal violence and protests in Mali, Prime Minister Soumeylou Boubeye Maiga resigned alongside his entire cabinet. The public was enraged by a massacre of some 160 Fulani herders by members of a rival community.

Four weeks after a brutal attack on a village in central Mali, the government led by Soumeylou Boubeye Maiga offered their resignations to the country's president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.
"The President accepts the resignation of the prime minister and that of the members of government," the president's office said in a statement on Thursday.
Maiga's successor "will be named very soon" following consultations between "all political forces," it added.

29-year-old journalist Lyra McKee shot dead in Northern Ireland violence

Updated 0748 GMT (1548 HKT) April 19, 2019

Authorities in Northern Ireland have appealed for calm after 29-year-old journalist Lyra McKee was shot dead in what police are calling a "terrorist incident."
Dissident republicans are believed to be responsible for the death of McKee, who was shot during violent unrest in the Creggan area of Londonderry Thursday night, according to police. Images from the scene showed cars alight as a crowd threw fireworks and petrol bombs at emergency vehicles.
The city -- which is referred to by pro-Irish nationalists as Derry and pro-British unionists as Londonderry -- is a short drive from the border with the Republic of Ireland.

Venezuela skirts US sanctions by 'funneling oil sales via Russia'

Reuters news agency report reveals Venezuelan oil sales routed through Russian state energy giant Rosneft.
President Nicolas Maduro is funnelling cash flow from Venezuelan oil sales through Russian state energy giant Rosneft as he seeks to evade US sanctions designed to remove him from power, according to sources and documents reviewed by Reuters news agency.
The sales are the latest sign of the growing dependence of Venezuela's cash-strapped government on Russia as the United States tightens a financial noose around Maduro.

Dear Democrats: Mueller Just Handed You a Road Map for Impeachment. Follow It.

April 19 2019, 5:40 a.m.
You told us to be patient. You told us to be cautious. You told us to wait for Robert Mueller.
Well, the time for waiting is over. And the moment for impeachment hearings has arrived.
Forget the mendacious Attorney General William Barr, and his repeated — and repeatedly dishonest — attempts to summarize and spin the special counsel’s report prior to publication.
