Election results 2019: Tories on course to win majority - exit poll

The Conservatives are set to win an overall majority of 86 in the general election, according to an exit poll for the BBC, ITV and Sky News.
The survey taken at UK polling stations suggests the Tories will get 368 MPs - 50 more than at the 2017 election - when all the results have been counted.
Labour would get 191, the Lib Dems 13, the Brexit Party none and the SNP 55.
In one of the first seats to declare, the Conservatives took Blyth Valley in north-east England from Labour.
This is the first time the former mining area will have a Conservative MP - NHS worker Ian Levy.

Artificial intelligence will help determine if you get your next job

AI is being used to attract applicants and to predict a candidate’s fit for a position. But is it up to the task?

By

With parents using artificial intelligence to scan prospective babysitters’ social media and an endless slew of articles explaining how your résumé can “beat the bots,” you might be wondering whether a robot will be offering you your next job.
We’re not there yet, but recruiters are increasingly using AI to make the first round of cuts and to determine whether a job posting is even advertised to you. Often trained on data collected about previous or similar applicants, these tools can cut down on the effort recruiters need to expend in order to make a hire. Last year, 67 percent of hiring managers and recruiters surveyed by LinkedIn said AI was saving them time.

Fukushima clean-up has reduced radiation levels, but not all: scientists

By TOSHIFUMI KITAMURA

Clean-up efforts at Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant, destroyed by a massive earthquake and tsunami in 2011, have significantly reduced radiation levels but untreated forested areas remain a problem, scientists said Thursday.
The disaster spewed radioactive material over a huge area, with the Japanese authorities targeting 9,000 square kilometers of the most contaminated land for remedial work.
This involved scraping off the top five centimeters of soil which was found to reduce the most common radiation source of Cesium 137 by about 80 percent, according to a review of studies on the clean-up operation published in the journal Soil.
