German far-right arrests reveal multiple mosque attacks plot

Twelve men believed to have been planning simultaneous mass-casualty assaults

Members of a German far-right group arrested last week are believed to have been plotting “shocking” large-scale attacks on mosques similar to the ones carried out in New Zealand last year, a government spokesman has said.
Investigations into 12 men detained in police raids across Germany on Friday had indicated they planned major attacks, officials said, following weekend media reports that the group aimed to launch several simultaneous mass-casualty assaults on Muslims during prayer gatherings.
“It’s shocking what has been revealed here, that there are cells here that appear to have become radicalised in such a short space of time,” the interior ministry spokesman Björn Grünewälder told reporters at a Berlin press conference.

Trump news – live: President attends wedding of white nationalist aide at his own hotel as over 1,000 legal experts demand William Barr ousted as attorney general

Joe Sommerlad @JoeSommerlad

Donald Trump returned to Washington on Sunday night after opening the Daytona 500 NASCAR race in Florida to attend the wedding of his senior aide Stephen Miller, held at the president’s own Trump International Hotel in DC in disregard of ongoing concerns about violations of the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause.
Over 1,100 Justice Department prosecutors and officials have meanwhile called for his attorney general, William Barr, to step down after it became clear he had intervened to push for a more lenient prison sentence for Republican political operative and Trump ally Roger Stone.
The president has otherwise been belatedly defending his US-Mexico border wall after footage went viral of a section of it being blown down in strong winds two weeks ago, with Mr Trump now insisting this was the fault of wet concrete and not shoddy workmanship or cheap materials.

Hamas hackers 'seduce' Israeli soldiers

Israel's military said on Sunday it had thwarted an attempted malware attack by Hamas that sought to gain access to soldiers' mobile phones by using seductive pictures of young women.
The phones of a few dozen soldiers were affected, but the military "does not assess that there has been a substantial breach of information", said Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Conricus, an army spokesman.
Conricus said this was the third attempted malware attack by Hamas in less than four years, but that the latest effort indicated the Islamist group, which controls the Gaza Strip, had improved their capacity to wage cyber-warfare.

Tokyo Marathon to restrict entry to elite athletes due to coronavirus

Organizers of the Tokyo Marathon said Monday they will allow only elite athletes, including wheelchair racers, to take part in the upcoming pre-Olympic event, as Japan steps up efforts to contain the coronavirus outbreak.
Of the 38,000 who were scheduled to compete on March 1, those in the "general entry" category can no longer take part because of the virus outbreak in China and its spread to other countries, which has already affected a number of other sports events.
Tokyo Gov Yuriko Koike expressed sympathy with runners in the general category, who gained entry to the race via lottery, saying the move was necessary for public safety.
