Russian and North Korean hackers attempting to steal valuable vaccine data, says Microsoft
US government previously warned Chinese hackers were attempting to steal vaccine information
Russian and North Korean hackers have attempted to steal "valuable" coronavirus vaccine data, Microsoft has said.
State-backed actors tried to obtain information from pharmaceutical companies and vaccine researchers working on the jab, the firm added.
Microsoft wrote in a blog post on Friday that most of the attacks in the past few months have been foiled.
Violent extremism linked to failure of migrants to integrate, EU says
Reference to Islam removed from EU governments’ declaration after disagreements
The rise of violent extremism in Europe has been linked to the failure of migrants to integrate, in a hard-debated joint declaration by EU governments on the recent terror attacks.
The statement by EU home affairs ministers was described by Horst Seehofer, Germany’s interior minister, as a “great sign of solidarity” when delivered on Friday but it had been heavily watered down from a controversial initial draft.
After a week of disagreements over the contents of the proposed declaration pushed by France, Austria and Germany, references to Islam were removed along with demands for newcomers to learn the languages of their new home and “earn a living for oneself”.
Bataclan attack: How survivors cope with the trauma 5 years on
Five years after the November 2015 terror attacks in Paris, survivors have found their own ways to deal with the trauma. But they will likely have to live with the pain forever.
A love for music proved almost fatal for Serge Maestracci at the Bataclan music hall on November 13, 2015. And yet, this affection has also been his lifebuoy ever since.
He had started writing songs shortly before the attack. Since then, he's been rehearsing regularly with his band at a studio in the suburb of Saint-Ouen, just north of Paris. Like on a recent Thursday morning, when he was singing a song called 'Bataclan,' which describes how his son had difficulties going to sleep on the night of the 13th.
Thousands rally in Armenia against disputed peace deal
Thousands of furious protesters rallied in the Armenian capital for a fourth day running on Friday demanding Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan resign over a controversial peace agreement with Azerbaijan.
Pashinyan announced the Moscow-brokered agreement Tuesday, ending more than six weeks of intense fighting over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh that left at least 1,400 dead and displaced tens of thousands.
Armenia agreed to cede parts of the region to Azerbaijan as well as other territories controlled by Armenian separatists since the 1990s.
The world's largest wetlands are on fire. That's a disaster for all of us
Updated 1533 GMT (2333 HKT) November 13, 2020
The world watched as California and the Amazon went up in flames this year, but the largest tropical wetland on earth has been ablaze for months, largely unnoticed by the outside world.
The fires have destroyed unique habitats and wrecked the livelihoods of many of the Pantanal's diverse indigenous communities. But their damaging impact reaches far beyond the region.
Mutated strain of coronavirus 'can jump back and forth'
By Helen Briggs
BBC Environment correspondent
A new coronavirus strain could potentially leap to other animals, such as rats, mice, ferrets and voles, an expert has warned.
The virus could then "come back in future years into the human population", said Sir Jeremy Farrar, director of the Wellcome Trust.
His comments came amid new warnings about the virus's evolution in mink.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control said mink-to-human transmission could occur.
