Jordanian helicopters have begun deliveries of aid to Gaza - the first since the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was declared.

The scene from the air reveals itself out of the midday haze - grey ruins and a lifeless landscape.

As we land, the Jordanian air force men jump out first and make sure there is someone from the World Food Programme to receive the aid.

A solitary figure in a hi-vis jacket approaches.

The prosecutor for the international criminal court has said he is seeking arrest warrants for people accused of atrocities in Sudan’s Darfur region, where the US and others have determined that a paramilitary group and its allies have perpetrated genocide.

Karim Khan told the UN security council in New York: “Criminality is accelerating in Darfur. Civilians are being targeted, women and girls are subjected to sexual violence, and entire communities are left in destruction.

“This is not just an assessment; it is a hard-edged analysis based on verified evidence.”

Pakistan Senate votes to ban fake news on social media

Pakistan's Senate has voted to criminalize "intentional" spreading of misinformation with jail terms of up to three years. Journalists and opposition figures argue the law could be used to tamp down dissent.

Pakistan's upper house of parliament passed a bill on Tuesday criminalizing the spread of online misinformation.

The bill was already passed in the National Assembly last week.

What do we know about the bill?

The law would target anyone who "intentionally disseminates" information they have "reason to believe to be false or fake and likely to cause or create a sense of fear, panic or disorder or unrest."

Chip giant Nvidia shed nearly $600bn in market value after Chinese AI model cast doubt on supremacy of US tech firms.

DeepSeek, a little-known Chinese startup, has sent shockwaves through the global tech sector with the release of an artificial intelligence (AI) model whose capabilities rival the creations of Google and OpenAI.

DeepSeek-R1’s creator says its model was developed using less advanced, and fewer, computer chips than employed by tech giants in the United States.

Suicidal tendencies and ’80s battlefield tactics: How North Korean soldiers are operating in Russia’s war on Ukraine

Detonating a grenade under the chin rather than being captured. Using a fellow soldier to lure out attack drones. Removing body armor plates and helmets to enable faster attacks on foot. Writing pledges of allegiance to North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.

These are the brutal and near-suicidal tactics of North Korean soldiers, who have, since November, been deployed to repel Ukraine’s incursion in the southern Russian border region of Kursk.

Up to 12,000 North Korean soldiers have been sent to Russia, according to Western intelligence reports, which say around 4,000 troops have been killed or injured.
