Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Moscow is planning more 'provocations' in the Baltic region, following incidents last month where it appeared Russia was calling into question some of its borders. He was speaking during a visit to NATO's newest member Sweden. Tensions have been running high in the region, following NATO's Nordic expansion, further increasing its presence on Russia's doorstep.

The Baltic Sea was thrust into the center of geopolitics after Russia’s invasion into Ukraine. Feeling the threat from Russia, Finland joined NATO and Sweden is on the path to be next. That would put the Baltic Sea almost entirely under NATO control. How did this Baltic frontline look in the past? The fact that the Cold War could have turned hot right here, started to fade from public consciousness after 1990. But Moscow’s aggression in February 2022 presented a stark reminder. Russia’s full-scale attack on Ukraine sent shock waves across the Baltic region. Finland is now a member of NATO, and Sweden is in the process of accession. This would turn the Baltic into NATO’s "inland sea,” in complete defiance of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s imperial aspirations.

RAF jets intercept Russian military aircraft during Baltic mission

 

The RAF has released footage and photographs of fighter jets from RAF Lossiemouth intercepting Russian aircraft.

Air force crews were deployed to Estonia to help patrol Nato airspace over the course of four months, during which they intercepted 50 Russian aircraft.

The RAF personnel used "zombie" as their codeword for a Russian plane acting suspiciously.

The mission, called Operation Azotie, came amid heightened tensions between Nato-member countries and Russia following the invasion of Ukraine.

Germany and Denmark are building the world's longest underwater rail and road tunnel | DW News

 At the Baltic Sea construction of the world's longest underwater rail and road tunnel is underway. The 18-kilometer passageway, due to be completed in 2029, will link Denmark and Germany. The €10 billion project crosses a stretch of the Baltic Sea known as the Fehmarn Belt and will have two double-lane motorways and two electrified rail tracks. The entire tunnel will be built using pre-fab concrete elements.
