WATCH: Cops slash car tires at protests in Minneapolis

Update, 6/8/20: The Star Tribune has identified the officers puncturing tires as state troopers and deputies from the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office. The officers strategically deflated the tires to “stop behaviors such as vehicles driving dangerously and at high speeds in and around protesters and law enforcement,” said Minnesota Department of Public Safety spokesperson Bruce Gordon. The troopers reportedly targeted cars that “contained items used to cause harm during violent protests” such as rocks and concrete. The Anoka County Sheriff’s Lt. Andy Knotz said deputies were following directions from the state-led Multiagency Command Center.

Kristofer Bergh was 17 back in 2013 when Minneapolis Officer Derek Chauvin held him and his friends at gunpoint -- for shooting a Nerf dart out the window.

There were fears of mass casualties and onlookers reacted with anger. Police told DW the driver of the tanker was apprehended for his own safety. More than a dozen US cities have imposed night-time curfews as protests rage over the death of a black man in police custody. DW's Stefan Simons spent the night covering the story in Minneapolis. On two separate occasions he and his crew had encounters with the authorities while doing their jobs as reporters. In the first incident, Stefan told us the police shot at him.

How the killing of George Floyd has upended America
Cities across the US have been convulsed by protests sparked by the killing of George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man who died after being arrested and handcuffed by a white officer who then kneeled on his neck for several minutes. Floyd pleaded that he 'could not breathe' and among his last words were 'don't kill me'.
The incident has sparkd a reckoning over race and police killings of black Americans - and demonstrations have spread from Minnesota to other parts of the US including New York, Denver, Chicago and Oakland

Derek Chauvin is one of four police officers who were fired after Mr Floyd's death in custody on Monday.
There have been days of protests, looting and arson after an officer was filmed kneeling on George Floyd's neck.
The case has added to US anger over police killings of black Americans.
On Thursday, during the third night of protests over Mr Floyd's death, a police station was set alight. A number of buildings have been burned, looted and vandalised in recent days, prompting the activation of the state's National Guard troops.

The National Guard has been deployed to the US city of Minneapolis during a third straight night of unrest. Angry protests have spilled over into violence and looting. They come in response to the death of an unarmed black man in police custody earlier this week. The city's mayor has called for criminal charges to be filed against the officer who was filmed kneeling on George Floyd's neck during his arrest. The US Department of Justice has launched an investigation into Floyd's killing, which protesters say was fueled by racism.

George Floyd: Minneapolis protests intensify
Clashes have broken out in the American city of Minneapolis as thousands of people took to the streets for a second night to protest over the killing of an unarmed black man by a white police officer.
George Floyd, 46, died on Monday. Video showed him gasping for breath as a police officer knelt on his neck.
Tear gas was fired by police, while protesters threw rocks and sprayed graffiti. Buildings were set on fire and shops looted.
Minneapolis protests continue: 'Nobody's listening'
Protests rock the Twin Cities area after the shocking death of an unarmed black man during an arrest. One demonstrator says putting an end to police brutality is long overdue, adding: "Time's up."
