Ohio Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

Three Republican-led states, responding to a Trump administration request, said Saturday they will send up to 750 National Guard troops to join 800 already mobilized in D.C.

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster said he would deploy 200 troops “to stand with President Trump as he works to restore law and order to our nation’s capital.” Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine pledged 150, according to local news reports.

They followed West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey, who said 300 to 400 National Guard troops would be called up.

CNN Has More Remarkable Film Of Capitol Crisis From The Inside

Don't let anybody know where you are. -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Vice President Mike Pence.

There are a lot of powerful moments in these additional CNN clips of the Capitol attack (you probably saw some of them yesterday during the Jan. 6th committee hearing - they were taken by Alexandra Pelosi, who is a documentary filmmaker), but that's the one that jumps out to me: Nancy Pelosi telling Mike Pence not to let anyone know his location. Pelosi knew exactly what they were dealing with: Insurrection at the urging of the president. She knew Pence was in danger.

‘Segregated South type behavior’: Americans are furious at ‘scared’ Texas’s Gov. Abbott deploying Guard troops to the polls

The year is 2020 correct? And not 1950.  When reconstruction ended in the southern states moved to enact laws that would, in their minds keep the south the south. Repression was the stated goal and it worked. Until the 1950's when the Civil Rights movement took hold and people and rights organizations began fighting back against their oppressor's. I wasn't easy. Even after land mark ruling's like Brown vs. Board Of Education and the passage of the Civil and Voting Rights Southern states continued to fight any progress made by African Americans.  In 1969 Richard Nixon with help of Rodger Ailes (Who would help create Fox News) and Patrick Banchan the Southern Strategy would be conceived. They idea was to not only attract disactivated Dixie Crats to the Republican party but institute new forms of voter suppression and intimidation.   Efforts that continue today with the closing of minority only polling stations, eliminating or reducing early voting days, gerrymandering of districts and passing laws that require a specific  type of idea to vote. And now this: Governor Greg Abbott has decided to deploy the Texas National Guard to polling stations throughout the state. All in an effort to "protect" the vote.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) announced that he is deploying troops to the polls in the state, something that a president can’t even due because it can suppress the vote.

“The Texas Army National Guard said Monday it had been ordered to dispatch 1,000 troops to five major cities around the state in conjunction with the Nov. 3 election,” San Antonio Express-News reported on Monday.

It sent people into flames of rage claiming that it was an example of a Republican governor behaving like a segregationist from the 1950s.

The National Guard has been deployed to the US city of Minneapolis during a third straight night of unrest. Angry protests have spilled over into violence and looting. They come in response to the death of an unarmed black man in police custody earlier this week. The city's mayor has called for criminal charges to be filed against the officer who was filmed kneeling on George Floyd's neck during his arrest. The US Department of Justice has launched an investigation into Floyd's killing, which protesters say was fueled by racism.

Trump Cuts National Guard Deployment A Day Short Of Benefits Accrual | Rachel Maddow

Rachel Maddow relays reporting from Politico that Donald Trump has set a hard stop to National Guard deployment to a seemingly arbitrary day that is one day shy of the 90 days needed to accrue certain benefits under the Post-9/11 GI bill.
