Time For U.S. Policy Shift On North Korea
Following the death of Kim Jong-il on Saturday many spoken about how to engage with the new leadership led by Kim Jong-eun Kim Jong-il's youngest son. Upon assuming power even with 20 years of preparation Kim Jong-il instituted a military first policy diverting government funds and humanitarian aid to insure their continued support thus solidifying his grip on power. Keeping that in mind and the fact that paranoia played a large role in the pursuit of nuclear weapons believing rightly that those weapons since developed would insure the survival of North Korea and its political elite.
One of the difficulties in dealing with North Korea there is little understanding as to who is making policy and who has the right to implement it.
