Yoichi Masuzoe the Governor of Tokyo resigned over the misuse of government funds. The Gov. of course believed in his lying heart that he'd done nothing wrong. Sure stayed at five star hotels, used government vehicles for personal use, bought expensive gifts and ate like a king. After an exhaustive investigation he concluded he'd behaved badly but shouldn't resign. Did mention he investigated himself using his own lawyers. That's how one absolves themselves of any wrongdoing.
Faced with public criticism and a joint no-confidence motion submitted by all assembly factions over the inappropriate use of political funds, Tokyo Gov. Yoichi Masuzoe has made a decision to step down after refusing to do so just a day before submitting his resignation on the morning of June 15.
"I'm asking you to wait until the next regular assembly session in September, after the Rio de Janeiro Olympics and Paralympics are over," Masuzoe pleaded, with tears in his eyes, at a meeting of Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly governing board of directors on June 14. He added, "I wish I could resign as soon as possible, but I don't want to cause turmoil in the operation of the metropolitan government." On the following morning, however, the embattled governor submitted his resignation.
During the June 14 meeting, Masuzoe bowed his head, practically begging assembly members to allow him to continue with his job, saying that he had endured criticism until then "to avoid Tokyo becoming a laughingstock during the Rio Olympics (for holding a gubernatorial election during the Games)" because if the no-confidence motion against the governor was adopted, he would either have to resign or dissolve the assembly. He said, "I ask you to defend Tokyo's honor."
