Western powers voice outrage as Belarus accused of hijacking plane
Western countries have condemned Belarus for diverting a plane flying over its territory to arrest an opposition journalist.
EU leaders are due to discuss their response to what the union's executive called a "hijacking" and the US state department said was "a shocking act".
Belarus scrambled a fighter jet to force the plane - bound for Lithuania - to land, claiming a bomb threat.

China has vehemently denied a Wall Street Journal report citing US intelligence materials that said several members of staff at a key virus laboratory in Wuhan had fallen ill shortly before the first patient with Covid-like symptoms was recorded in the city on 8 December 2019.
Foreign ministry spokesperson, Zhao Lijian, said it was “completely untrue” that three researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) became sick in autumn 2019. The report, based on “previously undisclosed” US intelligence, said the said the lab workers staff had become sick “with symptoms consistent with both Covid-19 and common seasonal illness”.
Iran agrees to extend UN watchdog deal over nuclear sites
The IAEA will continue to monitor Iran's nuclear activity after the end of an initial three-month arrangement. The move comes as Tehran tries to gain leverage in the Vienna talks.
Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have agreed to a one-month extension on a deal on surveillance cameras at Tehran's atomic sites.
The arrangement gives the UN watchdog limited access to monitor Iran's nuclear plants after the initial three-month deal expired on Sunday.

The COVID-19 pandemic is being perpetuated by a "scandalous inequity" in vaccine distribution, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Monday as he set new targets for protecting people in the poorest countries.
WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that no country should assume that it's "out of the woods", no matter its vaccination rate, as long as the SARS-CoV-2 virus and its variants spread elsewhere.
"The world remains in a very dangerous situation," Tedros told the opening of the annual assembly of health ministers from its 194 member states.

The wave of mass arrests will take place as part of what police called “operation law and order”. It is intended to penalise those who have taken part in demonstrations against settler violence, the Israeli forces’ crackdown on the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, and the military’s 11-day bombardment campaign of Gaza, which killed 248 people.
