Israel has carried out hundreds of air strikes, destroying two tower blocks in Gaza on Tuesday and Wednesday.
At least 53 Palestinians and six Israelis have been killed since Monday.

Climate emissions shrinking the stratosphere, scientists reveal Exclusive: Thinning indicates profound impact of humans and could affect satellites and GPS
Wed 12 May 2021 15.00 BST
Humanity’s enormous emissions of greenhouse gases are shrinking the stratosphere, a new study has revealed.
The thickness of the atmospheric layer has contracted by 400 metres since the 1980s, the researchers found, and will thin by about another kilometre by 2080 without major cuts in emissions. The changes have the potential to affect satellite operations, the GPS navigation system and radio communications.
The discovery is the latest to show the profound impact of humans on the planet. In April, scientists showed that the climate crisis had shifted the Earth’s axis as the massive melting of glaciers redistributes weight around the globe.
Radovan Karadzic: Former Bosnian Serb leader to be moved to UK prison to serve sentence for Srebrenica genocide
Foreign secretary says UK has supported the ‘30 year pursuit for justice’ for Radovan Karadžić’s ‘henious crimes’
The British government has announced that Radovan Karadžić, the former president of Republika Srpska who was convicted of carrying out genocide and war crimes during the Bosnian War, will serve the remainder of his prison sentence in the UK. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said in a statement that Britain has “supported the 30 year pursuit for justice” of Mr Karadžić’s “heinous crimes”.
“Radovan Karadžić is one of the few people to have been found guilty of genocide. He was responsible for the massacre of men, women and children at the Srebrenica genocide and helped prosecute the siege of Sarajevo with its remorseless attacks on civilians,” he said.
Belarus torture survivors take legal action in Germany Ten people have filed a criminal complaint against Belarus leader Alexander Lukashenko, alleging torture and crimes against humanity. DW spoke with two of the individuals seeking justice.
The trauma for Valery Samalazau continues each day. "I barely get any sleep, and have been prescribed antidepressants and sleeping pills," he tells DW.
"My fingertips are numb since the torture; I have a hard time talking about how I was beaten, humiliated, and how they threatened to shove a baton into my anus," says Samalazau, his voice shaking.
"You don't want to remember it."
Mind over matter: brain chip allows paralysed man to write Paralysed from the neck down, the man stares intently at a screen. As he imagines handwriting letters, they appear before him as typed text thanks to a new brain implant.
The 65-year-old is "typing" at a speed similar to his peers tapping on a smartphone, using a device that could one day help paralysed people communicate quickly and easily.
The research could benefit people suffering spinal cord injuries, strokes or motor neurone disease, said Frank Willett, a research scientist at Stanford University and lead author of the study published Wednesday in the journal Nature.
Eritrean troops disguised as Ethiopian military are blocking critical aid in Tigray
Eritrean troops are operating with total impunity in Ethiopia's war-torn northern Tigray region, killing , raping and blocking humanitarian aid to starving populations more than a month after the country's Nobel Peace Prize winning leader pledged to the international community that they would leave. A CNN team traveling through Tigray's central zone witnessed Eritrean soldiers, some disguising themselves in old Ethiopian military uniforms, manning checkpoints, obstructing and occupying critical aid routes, roaming the halls of one of the region's few operating hospitals and threatening medical staff.
Despite pressure from the
Biden administration , there is no sign that Eritrean forces plan to exit the border region anytime soon.
