Romanian court annuls first round of presidential election
Ruling follows revelation of declassified intelligence alleging Russia ran online campaign to promote far-right outsider
A top Romanian court has annulled the first round of the country’s presidential election, days after declassified intelligence alleged Russia ran a coordinated online campaign to promote the far-right outsider who won the first round.
The momentous move by the court effectively voids the national election, which will have to be re-run.
The constitutional court’s decision – which is final – came on Friday after President Klaus Iohannis declassified intelligence two days earlier that alleged Moscow ran a sprawling drive comprising thousands of social media accounts to promote the pro-Russian candidate Călin Georgescu across platforms like TikTok and Telegram.

The Israeli military on Friday denied reports that it hit the Kamal Adwan hospital, one of northern Gaza's last working health centres. A WHO representative said that Israel issued "no official evacuation order" before the strikes.
The Israeli military on Friday denied reports it had struck or entered the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, saying it was operating "adjacent" to the facility.
"Contrary to the reports made over the past day, the (military) did not strike the Kamal Adwan hospital or operate within it", it said in a statement. It said it would "continue to operate against terror infrastructure and terrorists" in northern Gaza, including "adjacent to" the hospital.
Earlier Friday, the Kamal Adwan hospital said Israel conducted several strikes that hit the medical facility.
South Korea’s governing party head supports suspending Yoon’s powers, making impeachment more likely
South Korea’s governing party chief expressed support Friday for suspending the constitutional powers of President Yoon Suk Yeol for imposing martial law this week, in a bombshell reversal that makes Yoon’s impeachment more likely.
Opposition parties are pushing for a parliamentary vote on Yoon’s impeachment on Saturday, calling his short-lived martial law declaration an “unconstitutional, illegal rebellion or coup.” But they need support from some members of the president’s People Power Party to get the two-thirds majority required to pass the impeachment motion.
TikTok loses appeal against US ban law
Liv McMahon
TikTok's bid to overturn a law which would see it banned or sold in the US from early 2025 has been rejected.
The social media company had hoped a federal appeals court would uphold its argument that the law was unconstitutional.
TikTok's lawyers told the court in September that a ban would have a "staggering" impact on the free speech of its 170 million US users.
But the court ruled the law "was the culmination of extensive, bipartisan action by the Congress and by successive presidents."
