Pakistan and India exchange fire as UN calls for ‘maximum restraint’

Countries trade blows across line of control in disputed Kashmir as tensions rise after deadly shooting

Troops from Pakistan and India exchanged fire overnight across the line of control in disputed Kashmir, officials have said, after the UN urged the nuclear-armed rivals to show “maximum restraint” after Tuesday’s massacre of Indian tourists by Islamic militants.

Relations have plunged to their lowest level in years, with India accusing Pakistan of supporting “cross-border terrorism” after gunmen carried out the worst attack on civilians in contested Muslim-majority Kashmir for a quarter of a century.

The brief exchange of small-arms fire came as police in Kashmir said they had identified three suspected attackers affiliated with the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba they say were involved in Tuesday’s massacre of Indian tourists and released their sketches, announcing a bounty of 2m rupees (about £17,500) on the three.

Greece says it won't accept refugee returns from Germany

Athens says it won't accept Germany's plan to return refugees who first applied for asylum in Greece. The migration minister says the country administers a disproportionate number of displaced people within the EU.

Immigration and Asylum Minister Makis Voridis on Friday said Greece would not welcome requests from Germany to take back refugees who had already applied for asylum in the Mediterranean country.

Voridis told news channel Skai that such a return is out of the question under the current circumstances, with Greece already hosting the European Union's highest number of refugees per capita after Cyprus.

UN food agency warns food stock in Gaza has run out amid Israeli aid blockade

The United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP) warned Friday that it has run out of food supplies in Gaza as Israel’s blockade on humanitarian aid stretches into its eighth week. The UN says the territory is facing its worst humanitarian crisis since the war began 18 months ago, with community kitchens expected to shut down in the coming days.

The UN's World Food Programme on Friday warned it has depleted all its food stocks in war-ravaged Gaza, where the entry of humanitarian aid has been blocked by Israel since March 2.

"Today, WFP delivered its last remaining food stocks to hot meals kitchens in the Gaza Strip. These kitchens are expected to fully run out of food in the coming days", WFP, one of the main providers of food assistance in Gaza, said in a statement.

After 18 months of war, the UN's humanitarian agency OCHA on Tuesday said the situation in Gaza "is probably the worst" now.

It's a bright spring morning in Hanover, Germany, and I'm on my way to meet a robot.

I have been invited to see the G1, a humanoid robot built by Chinese firm, Unitree, at the Hannover Messe, one of the world's largest industrial trade shows.

Standing at about 4'3" (130cm), G1 is smaller and more affordable than other humanoid robots on the market, and has such a highly fluid range of motion and dexterity that videos of it performing dance numbers and martial arts have gone viral.

FBI director says Wisconsin judge arrested for allegedly obstructing ICE

The Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested a Milwaukee County Circuit judge Friday, FBI Director Kash Patel said on social media, accusing her of helping an undocumented immigrant avoid arrest.

Judge Hannah Dugan is facing two charges for obstruction and concealing the individual from arrest, a law enforcement official told CNN.

“We believe Judge Dugan intentionally misdirected federal agents away from the subject to be arrested in her courthouse, Eduardo Flores Ruiz, allowing the subject — an illegal alien — to evade arrest,” Patel’s post read before it was quickly deleted. “Thankfully our agents chased down the perp on foot and he’s been in custody since, but the Judge’s obstruction created increased danger to the public.”
