There are fears that a polarizing election will further inflame the culture war in the US. This week the Department of Homeland Security warned of a rise in right-wing terrorism -- the potential targets including the LGBTQ community as well as racial and ethnic minorities. While the debate over gun controls remains deadlocked in Washington, some say the best protection for “vulnerable groups" is to give them guns as well.

In the United States there are more guns than people. On a recent Saturday morning, hundreds queued up in Houston, Texas, to turn their guns over to police.

More than 800 guns were collected in this effort by local law enforcement to make the city safer - but many who gave up their firearms have many more at home.

Republican pulls out guns during Congress debate on new gun laws

 

This is the moment Republican Greg Steube pulled out a bunch of handguns during a Congress debate on new gun legislation.

Florida Representative Mr Steube, who attended the hearing on Zoom, argued against the new laws, saying that some of the guns he was holding up would be banned under the proposed legislation.

The issue of controls on gun ownership is being debated in the US once again, after a gunman opened fire in a school in Uvalde, Texas, killing 19 children and two teachers.

With individuals like Greg Steube is it any wonder why the rest of world looks on in horror at the attitude of elected Republicans towards guns and gun violence.  Mr. Steube doesn't  represent his constituents. Mr. Steube represents his firearms in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Demands grow for tougher laws after 19 children and two teachers killed in Texas school shooting.

Nineteen children and two teachers were killed in a mass shooting at an elementary school in the town of Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday.

Police say the 18-year-old gunman sent chilling messages online before the attack, and entered the school despite being confronted by a security guard.

Grief is turning to anger, as Americans once again demand tougher gun control laws.

More and more Americans are taking a stand against a widespread gun craze in the country - especially since a rampage at a Florida school left 27 dead. But they face stiff resistance from a powerful weapons lobby, above all the National Rifle Association.

The gun solution we're not talking about

It seems like after every mass shooting, politicians talk about expanding background checks for gun buyers. But background checks don't actually do a great job of keeping dangerous people from getting guns. What does? A licensing system, where before you can buy a gun, you need a license from the state.

Nothing Says Surviving A Pandemic Like A Gun

The DHS guidelines list as essential:

• Workers supporting the manufacturing of safety equipment and uniforms for law enforcement, public safety personnel, and first responders.
• Workers supporting the operation of firearm or ammunition product manufacturers, retailers, importers, distributors, and shooting ranges.

Following in the lead of Texas Attorney General Dan Patrick the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as noted above: Has deemed the the manufacturing and selling of firearms essential to stopping and/or helping elevate the spread of the deadly coronavirus.  One can only imagine those brave armed virus warriors on the hunt for a microscopic foe they are unable to locate without a microscope.    One can only imagine these fools dressed in full camouflage and armed to the teeth acting like a Special Forces unit in search of this diabolical enemy.    

Treating those infected or preventing others from becoming infected never crossed the minds of these fools as being of the highest priority.  No. Instead they decided that the ability to manufacture and sell a weapon meant for one use only, war is essential in the fight against the corona virus. 

Dear Americans: The 2nd Amendment Does't Apply In Japan

Once again, an American tried  entering Japan with either a firearm, the ammunition or both. Japan has strict firearms laws.   No matter what excuse you offer they're going to consequences.

An American woman who was found to be in possession of a pistol and bullets on a flight from Atlanta to Narita airport near Tokyo last week was denied entry to Japan, airport sources said Friday.

The woman, believed to be in her 30s, told Delta Air Lines crew during the flight that she had mistakenly brought the handgun and ammunition with her onto the plane, despite passing through security inspection at the southern U.S. airport, the sources said.

The cabin crew took the handgun from the woman until the plane's arrival on the afternoon of Jan 3, the sources said, adding that she apparently owned it for self-protection.

The woman returned to the United States the same day she arrived, they said.

The case follows an earlier one at Narita in which an American co-pilot was found to be in possession of live bullets during a security inspection before departing the Japanese airport on Dec 14, the sources said.

Fixing A Computer The American Way: With A Gun Pointed At Your Head

Everyday life in America isn't like other places, where the mundane is the norm and life just isn't all that exciting.  Living in a country that believes itself to be exceptional can be taxing how does one live up to that standard?  For example having a computer repaired. Most people would do one of say three things, call the customer service line, take it a repair shop or have the technion come to your home and finally just do your self.

Let's say you choose to have the repair person come to your home and while there informs you that, yes it can be repaired but they must leave to retrieve the necessary parts. How would you react? Resignation, acceptance, frustration but willing to go along or would you choose an extreme?

Remember this America and Americans are exceptional.  

In this case the owner of the computer chose the extreme and what he used to emphasize that he was "exceptional" was a gun.  Yes, this "exceptional" American decided that what was needed was a  Second Amendment remedy  to motivate this defenseless computer tech.

Mondello told the tech ”you’re not leaving this house until the computer is fixed” — a feat that would be difficult to accomplish without the needed parts.  That’s when [he] decided a Second Amendment Solution was in order. He left the room and returned with a what appeared to be a gun, telling the tech:
”I’m going to kill you slowly.”

The Second Amendment remedy guy is Joe Mondello the former Legislative Director for Texas Republican Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.  

Remember only "exceptional", conservative,  NRA card carrying and responsible gun owners may act this way because they're responsible.

Updated President Obama's statement on the mass shooting in the U.S. state of Oregon.

On Thursday, Obama spoke about the Umpqua Community College shooting in southwestern Oregon. He did not mask his anger about the tragedy — and America's apparent unwillingness to do anything about it.

"As I said just a few months ago, and I said a few months before that, and I said each time we see one of these mass shootings, our thoughts and prayers are not enough," Obama said. "It does not capture the heartache and grief and anger that we should feel. And it does nothing to prevent this carnage from being inflicted someplace else in America next week or a couple of months from now."



Obama pointed out that America has extraordinary levels of gun violence compared to other developed countries, which researchers widely attribute to the easy access to firearms in the US.
