Police in the border towns of Kharkiv region are helping civilians evacuate before the frontline reaches their front doors. Bombs are continuing to rain down on the region as Russian forces have stepped up their attacks on the north of Ukraine.

Ukraine conflict: The families living in an underground station for three months

 


Some Ukrainian families have been living in a metro station in the country’s second largest city of Kharkiv for more than three months.

With no fresh air or access to washing facilities, disease has spread easily. But they say they have nowhere else to go and are now worried about being evicted, after local authorities reopened the metro.

After weeks of heavy bombardment, Kharkiv is breathing a sigh of relief. The Ukrainian military claims to have driven Russian troops out of the area around the country's second-largest city. The shelling, according to regional authorities, has stopped.

How civilians in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv are living under daily attacks from Russian forces.

Under incessant artillery and aerial attacks, the people of Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine have seen their homes and neighbourhoods destroyed and their lives turned upside down.

When Russia invaded their country on February 24, few could have imagined the brutality that would ensue or how hard it would be for civilians to survive.

Many have since fled the shattered city, but for those who remain, somehow humanity prevails.

Ukraine war: The school that helped fleeing musicians find safety

 

More than 4 million Ukrainian refugees have left the war-torn country since it was invaded by Russia. A group of young musicians from Kharkiv and Odesa have found safety in Denmark, after receiving help from a local music school. They’ll now be able to continue to study and play music.

Ukraine war: Man rescued from Kharkiv rubble after shelling

 

A man was rescued from the rubble of a teaching building in the north eastern city of Kharkiv, after it was shelled by Russia on Friday.

The attack killed one person and wounded several others, according to Ukrainian authorities.
