Near the police station on the main street of Xiahe, a town in China's Gansu Province, the Tibetan farmer poured gasoline over his body and lit himself on fire. Images taken with mobile phones show the man, engulfed in flames, running down the street until he falls to the ground.
Seized N Korean ship: Cuban weapons on board
Cuba has admitted being behind a stash of weapons found on board a North Korean ship seized in the Panama Canal.
The Cuban foreign ministry said the ship was carrying obsolete Soviet-era arms from Cuba for repair in North Korea.
The ship was seized by Panama last week after "undeclared military cargo" was found hidden in a shipment of sugar.
United Nations sanctions prohibit the supply of arms to North Korea in the dispute over its nuclear programme.
A Cuban foreign ministry statement said Cuba reaffirmed its commitment to "peace, disarmament, including nuclear disarmament, and respect for international law".

The Coalition candidate for the Queensland seat of Capricornia has said she would support the dumping of dredged waste in the Great Barrier Reef world heritage area, despite a poll showing the majority of residents are against the plan.
The survey of 571 residents in the electorate of Capricornia, conducted by the World Wildlife Fund, found that 75.2% of them supported a total ban on the dumping of waste in the Great Barrier Reef world heritage area.
Michelle Landry, the LNP candidate for the seat, told Guardian Australiashe would like a "suitable" dumping site to be found in the sea, to enable the expansion of the Abbot Point coal port.

Gay rights activist tortured, found dead in Cameroon
Gay rights campaigner Eric Lembembe has been found dead in his Yaounde home after being tortured, says Human Rights Watch.
Lembembe's body was discovered in the capital on Monday and his body showed he had been extensively tortured, the group said in a statement on Tuesday.
"Friends of Lembembe found his body on Monday evening. According to one of his friends his neck was broken and his face, hands and feet were burned with an iron," the statement said.
The organisation referred to the incident as "murder" and called on the authorities to carry out a thorough investigation.
They said Lembembe was found after worried friends had been unable to contact him by phone.
The front door to his house was padlocked on the outside but they could see his body through a window and called the police, who broke down the door.
Human toll of Syria's civil war echoes Rwandan genocide, says UN
Approximately 5,000 Syrians are dying each month, and an average of 6,000 people flee the country every day, UN officials reported Tuesday. Since the war began, nearly 93,000 people are dead, and 1.8 million have fled.
An estimated 5,000 Syrians are dying every month in the country's civil war and refugees are fleeing at a rate not seen since the 1994 Rwanda genocide, U.N. officials said Tuesday.
"In Syria today, serious human rights violations, war crimes and crimes against humanity are the rule," said Ivan Simonovic, the assistant secretary-general for human rights, told the U.N. Security Council on Tuesday.
He added that "the extremely high rate of killings ... demonstrates the drastic deterioration of this conflict."
U.N. refugee chief Antonio Guterres said two-thirds of the nearly 1.8 million Syrian refugees known to the agency have fled since the beginning of 2013, an average of over 6,000 daily.
"We have not seen a refugee outflow escalate at such a frightening rate since the Rwandan genocide almost 20 years ago," he said.
France arrests Norwegian neo-Nazi rocker over attack fears

PARIS — A Norwegian neo-Nazi rocker, who was on the mailing list of terrorist Anders Behring Breivik, was arrested Tuesday in France over fears he could stage a "large-scale" attack.
Kristian Vikernes, who performs under the name Varg Vikernes, was arrested with his French wife at their home in the central Correze region - despite authorities having no knowledge of a specific plot.
RTL radio quoted intelligence sources as saying he was among the people to whom Breivik emailed his manifesto to on the day he killed 77 people in twin bomb and shooting attacks in Oslo and the nearby island of Utoya in 2011. Breivik used the 1,500-page document to rail against immigrants and Islam.
