Area C

Israel exercises total control over Area C, which forms 61% of the land of the West Bank.

Under the Oslo Accords (the 1993 interim agreement between Israel and the PLO), the West Bank was divided into three Areas, A, B and C, which were put under different jurisdictions.

Within these parcels of land, the Palestinian and Israeli authorities have different levels of control. The aim was that responsibilities and powers would gradually be transferred to the Palestinian Authority over time. This hasn’t happened.

This film looks at why that's the case.

It highlights the fact that Area C, which is 61% of the territory of the West Bank, is completely under Israeli control. It contains all the Israeli settlements as well as many Israeli military bases.
