Typhoid Donald Trump plans Florida rally on Saturday amid Covid test secrecy


The US president, who is still recovering from Covid-19, refuses to say if he has tested negative as he aims to revive his election campaign


Donald Trump, who is still recovering from Covid-19, has suggested he might organize a rally in Florida on Saturday, while continuing to ignore questions on whether he has yet tested negative for the disease.

On Thursday night, Trump said: “I think I’m going to try doing a rally on Saturday night if we can, if we have enough time to put it together.

“But we want to do a rally in Florida, probably in Florida on Saturday night, might come back and do one in Pennsylvania, on the following night.”

The Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) for fighting hunger and enabling peace in conflict regions during the coronavirus pandemic.

The award committee praised “its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict”.

Announcing the winner on Friday in Oslo, committee chair Berit Reiss-Andersen said: “With this year’s award, the (committee) wishes to turn the eyes of the world to the millions of people who suffer from or face the threat of hunger.

Rightwing extremism poses a “creeping threat” to liberal democracy in Australia, according to a new study that investigates how extremists are using online networks to spread radical narratives.

The study – which focuses mainly on New South Wales because it was funded by the state government – identified networks involving mostly male and under-35 users who were attracted to “the theme of white identity under threat”.

It noted the influence of American populist politics – including Trumpism – in rightwing extremist discussions in Australia.

The former president of Kyrgyzstan, Almazbek Atambayev, survived an assassination attempt in Bishkek when his car was shot at, Russia’s RIA news agency cited an aide as saying.

Friday’s apparent assassination attempt against Atambayev, who was freed from prison amid unrest following a disputed parliamentary vote, marked a new escalation of violence in the Central Asian country.

For the past decade, Mikayla Lowe Davis has been braiding and styling hair for her customers.

“The first thing people see a lot of times is our hair,” she says. “We have to represent our crown and be confident with wearing it.”

The 29-year-old stylist, who owns Mikki Styles Salon, is braiding in synthetic hair to the head of a customer in Arlington, Texas, a process which takes several hours and costs upwards of $115.
