The US says Israel is doing enough to bring aid into Gaza. On the ground it is a different story

US deadline for Israel to improve getting humanitarian aid into Gaza has expired, with the Biden administration assessing that Israel is not blocking aid and so is not violating US law governing foreign military assistance.

The State Department said that while changes were needed, progress had been made - so there would be no disruption to US arms supplies.

But the US view is a stark contrast with the bleak picture on the ground, where much of the aid that reaches Gaza is not being distributed.

Russian naval officer accused of ‘war crimes’ killed in Crimea car bombing

Valery Trankovsky had ordered missile strikes from Black Sea on civilian targets, a Ukrainian official said

A senior Russian naval officer was killed in a car bombing in Crimea on Wednesday, the latest in a series of targeted attacks on Russian military personnel and pro-Kremlin figures in occupied Ukrainian territories as well as inside Russia.

An official in Ukraine’s security services told the Ukrainian Pravda outlet that the agency had orchestrated the car bomb attack in the Russian-controlled port city of Sevastopol that killed Valery Trankovsky, the chief of staff of the 41st Missile Brigade of the Russian navy’s Black Sea fleet.

The official said Trankovsky was “a war criminal” who had ordered missile strikes from the Black Sea at civilian targets in Ukraine. Russia has used warships from its Black Sea fleet, as well as strategic bombers, to conduct missile strikes on targets across Ukraine that have led to hundreds of civilian casualties.

China: Vigil site at site of car mass killing cleared

Makeshift memorials have been cleared at the site of a deadly car ramming attack in the Chinese city of Zhuhai. Chinese authorities had already scrubbed social media after people complained of the attack response.

Authorities in China's  southern city of Zhuhai removed tributes and candles for the dozens of victims of a car ramming attack on Monday, according to reports in news agencies.

A man drove his car into a crowd at a sports center, killing 35 people and injuring 43 others. It was the deadliest mass killing in China since 2014.

It took authorities over a day to release details of the attack. An initial police statement said people had been injured but did not mention any deaths, and videos of the attack later appeared to be removed by online censors.

Nuclear regulators on Nov. 13 officially rejected Japan Atomic Power Co.’s request to restart a reactor based on the “undeniable” possibility of an active fault running beneath it.

The application to reactivate the No. 2 reactor at the Tsuruga nuclear power plant in Fukui Prefecture is the first to be rejected by the Nuclear Regulation Authority.

The operator said it will continue to seek approval to restart the reactor that was shut down after the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant accident triggered by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami.
