UN accuses Israel of 'genocidal acts' in Gaza
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected the allegations, accusing the UN Human Rights Council of antisemitism.
A United Nations-backed investigation said Thursday that Israel has committed "genocidal acts" during the conflict with Palestinian militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
"Israel … carried out genocidal acts through the systematic destruction of sexual and reproductive healthcare facilities," according to a report by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel.
'Passportisation', propaganda: In occupied Ukraine, Russia lays down roots
As Ukraine and Russia edge closer to peace talks, neither side seem willing to compromise on the sovereignty of the occupied territories that Russia has seized in east Ukraine. For the Ukrainian nationals who live there, ‘Russification’ has become an inescapable part of daily life.
For residents in the occupied territories of east Ukraine, checks by Russian officials are now a regular occurrence.
“They have checkpoints in and out of every major city, in and out of every village, on the road itself… There's lots of them,” says Sofiia, who works for Helping to Leave, an organisation that evacuates Ukrainians from the occupied territories.
The checkpoints allow Russian soldiers to enforce new rules restricting who can enter and leave certain towns, and they also provide an opportunity to check residents’ papers.

Canada's Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc, the operator of Circle K convenience stores, said Thursday that its discussions with Seven & i Holdings Co to acquire the Japanese rival have been "friendly" and that it is not considering a hostile takeover.

"Japanese operations are truly world class. For a long time, we have a belief there is a unique strategic fit" between the two retailer's convenience store brands, he said.
Next time, steal a crocodile: PM’s advice for US tourist after viral wombat video
Penry Buckley, Kayla Olaya and Hamish Hastie
The prime minister has told an American influencer to “take a baby crocodile from its mother and see how you go”, as her visa status was put under review after footage of her allegedly stealing a baby wombat went viral.
Hunting influencer Sam Jones (also known as Samantha Strable) has since deleted the viral video posted to her account @samstrays_somewhere with 92,000 followers, but too late to stop footage of her picking up and running away with a baby wombat from doing the rounds of online news outlets and breakfast shows after 2GB first aired the story.
Wildlife experts have said the alleged behaviour is probably illegal, with many members of the public taking to social media to call for her removal from Australia.
