Israeli strikes kill at least 32 people as military continues Gaza City attack

Israeli strikes and shootings have killed at least 44 people in Gaza, according to health officials in the territory, with most of the killings in Gaza City.

The Israeli military continues to press ahead with an attack on the strip’s largest city, where hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are trapped and starving, despite international pressure for a ceasefire.

Strikes on Saturday morning destroyed a house in Gaza City’s Tufah neighbourhood, killing at least 11 people, more than half of them women and children, according to al-Ahly hospital where the bodies were taken.



Safety fears as external power to Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant still out after three days

External power to the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant has been cut for more than three days, a record outage that has prompted safety concerns over the six-reactor site on the frontline of the Ukraine war.

Emergency generators are being used to power cooling and safety systems after the final power line into the plant was cut on the Russian side at 4.56pm on Tuesday and there is no immediate sign that the line will be reconnected.

Rafael Grossi, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), described the situation as “deeply concerning” on Wednesday and met Vladimir Putin on Thursday but the situation has continued.

Gustavo Petro: US to revoke visa of leftist Colombian leader

The left-wing Colombian president is a critic of Trump and vocally opposes Israel's operation in Gaza. Petro is in New York for the UN General Assembly and had called on US soldiers to disobey Trump.

The US Department of State said Friday that it will revoke the US visa held by left-wing Colombian President Gustavo Petro. 

The State Department said in a post on X that the revocation was due to Petro's "reckless and incendiary actions." 

New drones sighted over Denmark's largest military base

New unidentified drones were observed over Denmark's biggest military base on Saturday, police said, in a slew of sightings that Danish officials have called a "hybrid attack".

Drones were spotted at "several military sites", a Danish military spokesman said, refusing to provide other details.

Japan weighs offer to join ‘drone coalition’ to help Ukraine

Japan is considering an invitation from Latvia to join its “drone coalition” to help Ukraine fight back against Russia, according to Defense Minister Gen Nakatani.

Nakatani told a Sept. 26 news conference that the approach came through the Japan-Latvia foreign ministers’ meeting on Sept. 18, as well as other channels.

“Under our basic policy of providing as much support as possible to Ukraine, we will continue to study this,” he said.

Turkiye, group of athletes call on FIFA, UEFA to ban Israel’s football team

Pressure is growing on football’s governing bodies to take action against Israel’s national football team over the war on Gaza.

Turkiye has become the first member of European football’s governing body, UEFA, to publicly call for Israel’s suspension from all football competitions, as pressure ramps up on the sport’s organising bodies to take action over the ongoing war on Gaza in advance of the World Cup 2026.

Turkish Football Federation President Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu on Friday sent a letter to international football leaders urging that “it is now time for FIFA and UEFA to act” – referring to the world and European football governing bodies.
