Russian drone incursion into Poland ‘was Kremlin test on Nato’

Polish foreign minister says Vladimir Putin sought to test west’s reactions without triggering full-scale war

Poland’s foreign minister, Radosław Sikorski, has said last week’s Russian drone incursion into Polish airspace was an attempt by the Kremlin to test Nato’s reactions by incremental escalations without prompting a full-scale response.

Sikorski confirmed that while the drones used in the incursion were capable of carrying ammunition, those that reached Poland were not loaded with explosives. “Interestingly, they were all duds, which suggests to me that Russia tried to test us without starting a war,” Sikorski told the Guardian in Kyiv.

UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese Is Both Hated and Loved

Her fans celebrate Francesca Albanese as the voice of the oppressed. Critics accuse her of anti-Semitism. The UN special rapporteur seeks to help the Palestinian cause - but may also be harming it at the same time.

The woman who refers to herself as a "cold shower” is sitting on a stage in Madrid in a hall full of marble, a giant chandelier hanging from the ceiling. Francesca Albanese waves to the audience – which begins applauding even before she starts talking. "Children and children and even more children,” she calls out, "killed only because they are Palestinians.” She gasps for breath. "A state that murders children as if was as natural as breathing.”

Nepal’s new PM says will only serve for 6 months, urges 'cooperation' after deadly protests

Nepal’s first female prime minister, Sushila Karki, took office on Sunday and vowed to only stay in the role for the next six months. She replaces Khadga Prasad Oli, who was forced to resign and flee his official residence amid violent youth protests over corruption. “We have to work according to the thinking of the Gen Z generation,” Karki said.

Nepal’s new prime minister took office Sunday and “urged calm and cooperation to rebuild” the Himalayan nation after days of violent protests last week left at least 72 people dead and destroyed government buildings and politicians’ homes.

“We have to work according to the thinking of the Gen Z generation. ... What this group is demanding is end of corruption, good governance and economic equality,” said Sushila Karki, the 73-year-old former chief justice, in her first public comments since taking office on Friday. “You and I have to be determined to fulfil that.”

We will never surrender our flag, Sir Keir Starmer says

Britain will not surrender its flag to those who wish to use it as a symbol of violence, fear and division, Sir Keir Starmer has said.

The prime minister said the flag represents "our diverse country" and he will not allow people to feel intimidated on "our streets because of their background or the colour of their skin".

His comments came after more than 150,000 people took to the streets of central London for a "Unite the Kingdom" march organised by far-right activist Tommy Robinson, and about 5,000 took part in a counter-protest, co-ordinated by Stand Up To Racism.
