The Rise of North Korea’s Most Powerful Woman

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s sister, Kim Yo-jong, has an increasingly prominent role in the communist regime and some observers believe she is his natural successor.

The Kim family has transformed the so-called Hermit Kingdom into a dynasty that operates like a royal family.

Kim Yo-jung has a tight bond with her brother and has been entrusted with important diplomatic missions.

As a nuclear state technically still at war with neighbouring South Korea, North Korea is a crucial player in Asian geopolitics.

North Korea threatens to remilitarize DMZ

Relations between North and South Korea remain tense a day after Pyongyang threatened to restart military exercises in the demilitarized zone bordering South Korea. Citing the army, state media reported that troops would be sent to the industrial park in the border town of Kaesong and to the Kumgang Mountains on the east coast. Guard posts in the demilitarized buffer zone between the two countries will be reestablished, it added. Tensions on the Korean peninsula hit a new low Tuesday when Pyongyang blew up its joint liaison office with Seoul.

Poor little Kim-Jong un just isn't getting the love, press and attention he craves from the world. So he's decided that it's best to throw a temper tantrum. You and Donald Trump.

North Korea - All the dictator's men | DW Documentary

This documentary looks at how, and introduces the men who have helped Kim Jong Un keep his dreams of reaching nuclear power status alive. North Korea has not reined in its nuclear program, despite a number of UN resolutions that have tried to force it to do so. So how has the isolated country kept the program going despite sanctions? Every year Pyongyang sends millions of North Korean workers abroad, selling their services to over 40 countries around the world. And their salaries flow directly into Kim’s treasury. The only ones who know exactly how the system works are the men who have helped the North Korean government carry through the program for years. A film team spent years researching these men and their secrets - from bankers and diplomats to the laborers and specialists who worked abroad and whose wages flowed into the regime's coffers. Come and meet all the dictator’s men.

Donald Trump Asked Shinzo Abe Nominate Him For The Nobel Peace Prize: Asahi Shinbun

For all the derision, hate and attempts to erase the Presidency of Barrack Obama by Donald Trump and his army of Mini Me's. Isn't it interesting that he, Donald Trump seeks the same recognition and acceptance of world leaders, major international organizations and decision makers that was afforded President Obama.   So, the worlds most powerful political leader, a person so needed and insecure that he requires his staff to provide him with aa daily round-up of news which portrays him in the most positive manner sought out and asked Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize for his supposed diplomatic breakthrough with North Korea over the dismantling of its nuclear arsenal.  Even though no such agreement exists.

Acceding to a request from Washington, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe nominated U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize around autumn for engaging with North Korea, Japanese government sources said Feb. 16.
According to the sources, the U.S. government "informally" asked Tokyo to nominate Trump after he met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore in June, the first-ever summit between the two countries.
At a news conference in the White House on Feb. 15, Trump revealed that Abe gave him a copy of a five-page letter the prime minister sent to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which awards the prize.
The deadline for nominating candidates for the prize is February every year. College professors and members of the parliament in each country, as well as former Nobel laureates, are eligible to recommend candidates.

Visiting North Korea | DW Documentary

Anyone venturing behind the world’s last Iron Curtain into North Korea will experience a very different country to the one we know only through the usual images of rocket launches and mass rallies. The country is ruled by the dictator Kim Jong Un, whom the people worship - or are made to worship - as a god-like father figure. Little is known about daily life in North Korea, because all images that reach the outside world have been censored by the government. Visitors rarely see evidence of oppression, enforced conformity and starvation in the rural population. Still, journalist Luca Faccio is able to offer some interesting insights into the isolated country - although, of course, government watchdogs are on his heels everywhere he goes.

Trump Wants To Create A Fake News Network For Morons

Donald Trump the moron in chief  has proposed the creation of a news network to counter, what he calls the fake news presented by CNN.  Just think about it. The most watched international news network is CNN International based in Hong Kong followed by the BBC World Service.

Let's be real: Donald Trump wants to create a sycophantic news service to assuage his fragile ego. Last summer he offered high praise to North Korean state run television for their unquestioning love of  Kim-Jong un. Of course, if they did't they'd be shot.

U.S. President Donald Trump is raising the possibility of starting "our own Worldwide Network" to counter news spread internationally by CNN.
Trump said via Twitter on Monday that CNN "has a powerful voice portraying the United States in an unfair and false way. Something has to be done."
It wasn't immediately clear what he meant. The U.S. government already operates Voice of America, which last year reached some 275 million people worldwide with news reports from the United States available on television, radio, online and social media.
Perhaps he can establish a Ministry of Truth.

Foolish Trump Tweet-Begs North Korea To 'Honor Our Handshake' (video)

Everyone with any experience with North Korea predicted this would happen. Trump got played by Kim Jong-un. Tired of winning yet, Donald?
Because Donald Trump thinks tweets can do things like lower oil prices and renegotiate trade deals, he tweet-begged Kim Jong-un to "honor the contract, and more importantly, the handshake" about nukes.

Andrea Mitchell used the "we" word. It's not we, Andrea. Trump got played. From Monday's "The 11th Hour":
BRIAN WILLIAMS: The only way to start on North Korea is in simple English and that is, did we get played?
ANDREA MITCHELL: We sure did get played. And Pompeo with the best of intentions to try to flush out what in fact was agreed to in Singapore, if anything, he got snubbed. Sarah Sanders said he would be meeting with Kim Jong-un. He was not. That meeting was never in the cards. And, in fact, he spent two days going through endless long, multicourse dinners, lavish, which he didn't have an appetite for and they didn't get to the substance. They never got to the meat as to what really was agreed to in Singapore. And that's the problem. The president referring to a contract? What they signed were promises, empty promises, in fact. When he said in the tweet today that he relied more -- put more importance on the handshake with Kim Jong-un, why on earth would he be trusting a handshake from someone who is from a regime that has a history of family history of having cheated and lied to the United States and to other allies to their own neighbors in the past?
WILLIAMS: General, meantime this has become a standard line now in the president's rallies, talking about how much safer we are. That there are no longer missiles in the skies over the Pacific. Question to you is, are we any closer to denuclearization and remind me again what North Korea's motive is in agreeing to denuclearization.

↓ Story continues below ↓
GENERAL BARRY MCCAFFREY: You know, Andrea Mitchell pretty much summed it up. I have a great deal of empathy for Secretary Pompeo and jim Mattis, and the CIA director. They've got to remain objective. I've been dealing with the issue since I was a JCS strategic planner during the Clinton administration. The only difference between then and now is they have 60 nuclear weapons, maybe, and some ICBM capability to strike the United States.
They have no intention of denuclearizing.
So the Secretary of State has got to somehow maintain a dialogue lower the tension, keep our allies close to us. South Korea and Japan are concerned. Try to keep the Chinese supportive of the economic embargo and stop raising the nonsense expectations. You know, the president saying he's an honorable man revered by his people that, is not translating in North Korea. This guy is a monster. Murdered hundreds of his own thousands of his citizens. So we're in a very strange and concerning place right now.
Apparently Trump is still waiting for his Nobel Peace Prize and big ass military parade, though, amirite?

A tour of North Korea's answer to Disneyland

On a rare press trip to Pyongyang we were presented with a night at the bustling Kaeson Youth Park, where residents are marshalled in line by military personnel for a dose of state-sanctioned fun. But while the UN warns of food scarcity in the rest of the country, is this just a welcome distraction for the privileged few?

Tony Schwartz: Trump Would Murder As Many Of His Enemies As Kim Jung-un If He Could

Tony Schwartz appeared on AM Joy to speak in stark terms about what we're facing should we allow Trump's power to go further unchecked. Joy Reid asked him about his impressions of Trump from writing "The Art of the Deal," and how that informs his conclusions regarding Trump's behavior as president.
Completely consistent with everything Schwartz learned from his experience, and what he sees and hears now coming out of this administration, his assessment is dire. Trump's behavior is deranged, sociopathic in the extreme, and cruel in a way that feeds his affinity with the dictators he so admires.
SCHWARTZ: If Trump had the power that Kim Jong-un does, the kind of authoritarian power, and the lack of consequence if he, quote, breaks the law -- I believe, and this is going to be very extreme. I believe that Trump would be murdering as many enemies as Kim Jong-un does.

The Kim dynasty | DW Documentary

What will happen at the Singapore summit between Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump on June 12? Will the dispute over nuclear weapons escalate? Our report shows the complexity of the situation that has been dominating headlines. Some attribute the recent chain of events to the long-term stability of North Korea's ruling dynasty. North Korea has consistently refused to give up the nuclear program that it has been pursuing since 1962. Washington has been equally consistent in changing its policies toward Pyongyang. And what will become of the US commitment to protect South Korea and Japan? Our report outlines the history of North Korea's nuclear program -- and also explains how the US has helped to enhance Pyongyang's strategic position. Every recent U.S. administration -- from Bill Clinton to Donald Trump -- has changed the country's policy toward North Korea. American presidents come and go, but the Kim dynasty remains in place.

Who Begged For The U.S. North Korea Summit?

According to Rudy Giuliani the T.V. lawyer pretending to represent Donald Trump has asserted that Kim-Jong un begged for the summit to be held in Singapore on 12 June.  I'm sure someone desperately  wanted a summit.  I just don't believe that it was Kim-Jong un.  Given that the person currently occupying the Oval Office is an immature, emotionally insecure narcissist and in need  of constant affirmation is the person who begged for this summit as believes it will insure his historic legacy.

Donald Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani has said North Korea's leader "begged" for their summit to be rescheduled after the US president cancelled it.
Speaking at a conference in Israel, Mr Giuliani said Mr Trump's tough stance had forced Pyongyang's hand.
Mr Trump called off the summit in May, accusing North Korea of "tremendous anger and open hostility".
But plans for the 12 June bilateral in Singapore were revived after a conciliatory response from Pyongyang.
Mr Giuliani was speaking at an investment conference in Israel when he made the remark.
The Wall Street Journal first reported that Mr Giuliani said: "Well, Kim Jong-un got back on his hands and knees and begged for it, which is exactly the position you want to put him in."

Even though Donald Trump is the alleged author of The Art of the Deal.  The reality is this, Donald Trump is one of the worst deal makers or negotiators in business.

The Carnival Barker In Chief Discards The Iran Nuclear Deal

Today, as expected the Carnival Barker in Chief has decided to ditch the P5+1 agreement with Iran which sought to curb its nuclear ambitions.  While certainly not perfect (Name a  treaty that is.) it certainly created an environment which gave the government an incentive or a means to have crippling economic scansions lifted.   As I stated earlier, Donald Trump had several reasons for doing this none of which were remotely rational.  Remember he's the one who used birtherism to launch racialy motivated attacks against former President Obama.  At the 2011 White House Correspondent's  President Obama made several jokes about the situation with Donald Trump in attendance.  Many believe that incident was the impedes for his presidential campaign.  Conversely Donald Trump would like to erase Barack Obama from history. Remember he is a racist.  An additional consequences  could be a Middle East arms, Iran restarting its nuclear programme and North Korea concluding that it's in their best interests for continued development of its nuclear arsenal.

Kim-Jong un and Donald Trump working out the details for summit meeting which will be used to discuss North Korea's nuclear weapons. Given todays developments North Korea will conclude that any agreement reached will be contingent upon the emotional state of Donald Trump.  To put it bluntly. North Korea will not have any reason to trust the American government if a treaty is signed.

US President Donald Trump says he will withdraw the US from an Obama-era nuclear agreement with Iran.
Calling it "decaying and rotten", he said the deal was "an embarrassment" to him "as a citizen".
Going against advice from European allies, he said he would reimpose economic sanctions that were waived when the deal was signed in 2015.
In response, Iran said it was preparing to restart uranium enrichment, key for making both nuclear energy and weapons.
Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said: "The US has announced that it doesn't respect its commitments.
"I have ordered the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran to be ready for action if needed, so that if necessary we can resume our enrichment on an industrial level without any limitations."

Donald Trump and North Korea: What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

About a year and a half after Bill Clinton became President the U.S. discovered that North Korea had created a nuclear weapons programme.  Alarmed, President Clinton came within moments of ordering a military strike against those facilities.  Fortunately his advisors persuaded him to find another course of action.  Jimmy Carter was dispatched to Pyongyang as an evony of the president in an effort to engage Kim-Jong il in talks on dissuading them from their chosen course.  While not initially successful Jimmy Carter was able to have the North agree to talks with the U.S. and South Korea.    Those talks would become the Agreed Framework in which North Korea would cease its pursuit of nuclear weapons and decommission its heavy water reactor in exchange for a light water reactor built by South Korea to provide electricity to the country.

While not perfect, the Agreed Framework did for, several years  halt North Korea's attempts to construct nuclear weapons.

The election of 2000 brought in the Republican administration of George W. Bush and with him came the neocons. A group of conservative Republicans who were quite skeptical of the  Agreed Framework believing that the previous administration had acquiesced to the demands of North Korea and were looking for reason to scrape it.  The attacks on September 11, 2001 would give them the pretext for doing so.  It all came to halt following George W. Bush's axis of evil speech at the State of the Union.

George W. Bush would constitute the Six Party Talks which never managed to deter North Korea from its nuclear ambitions with their first test of a weapon in October of 2006.

Six tests of these weapons have taken place in the intervening years and no progress has been made on halting the North's weapons programmes.

Donald Trump is now the occupant of the Oval Office and in March made a startling announcement agreeing to a summit with North Korea's Kim-Jong un as early as May of this year.  This is Donald Trump were speaking about. A man who will convey one policy message on Tuesday and by Thursday have a complete reversal.  He's done it on every major policy issue confronting his administration.  From immigration, to taxes, social programmes, health care and numerous other issues.  Just this week the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley announced there would be new sanctions placed on Russia only to be undercut by Donald Trump who wants to be besties with Vladimir Putin.

One has to wonder given these conditions what will happen.
He doesn't believe in diplomacy, has no ambassador to South Korea, no Under Secretary for Asian Affairs, the offical in charge of dealing with this issue resigned, the ambassador designate withdrew his name over comments he made about bombing North Korea and has been involved in twitter insult war with Kim-Jong un.  Given North Korea's record on such negotiations and how difficult those can be, one has to believe that Donald Trump, given his short attention span, lack of foreign policy experience, inability to make the difficult decisions and always listening to the last person in the room. These talks are a major recipe for disaster.

To further elaborate on the issue of policy and advisors.  Remember John Bolton who was recently named Donald Trump's National Security Advisor.  He was nominated for the post of Ambassador to the UN by George W.  Bush and failed to be confirmed by the senate because of his extreme views on foreign policy.  He believes that foreign policy should be carried out through military  engagement rather than actual policy implementation.  John Bolton, in recent op-ed published in the New York Times advocated for a military  attack on North Korea and would like to see America use it armed forces against  Iran.

Captain Chaos Strikes Again: He Sacked Rex Tillerson

Captain Chaos struck again this morning when (using twitter because a normal press release just wouldn't do.) he announced the sacking of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.  Tillerson will be replaced by Mike Pompeo presently the Director of the CIA. If you've never heard of Mike Pompeo don't feel bad he's a former Republican Congressman from Kansas whose almost as bright as Donald Trump which of course is an oxymoron.

It's rather interesting timing given Donald Trump's recent acceptance to meet with North Korean leader Kim-Jong un possibly as soon as May.  Neither Donald Trump or Mike Pompeo have any experience with diplomacy.  Nor our they experts on North Korea nor is anyone else in the administration as there is no U.S. ambassador to South Korea as the person nominated by Trump withdrew his name over comments he made about taking military action against the North if they failed to give up their nuclear arsenal.  Which they will never agree to. The foreign service officer who was working on this issue has also resigned.

Given Donald Trump's penchant for not listening to actual good advice or just going with his gut instinct will only lead to a diplomatic cockup.

Donnie Wants A Military Parade

Donald Trump channeling either his inner Soviet or Kim-Jong un is demanding  is demanding his own military parade according to the Washington Post.

President Trump’s vision of soldiers marching and tanks rolling down the boulevards of Washington is moving closer to reality in the Pentagon and White House, where officials say they have begun to plan a grand military parade later this year showcasing the might of America’s armed forces. [...]
“The marching orders were: I want a parade like the one in France,” said a military official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the planning discussions are supposed to remain confidential. “This is being worked at the highest levels of the military.”
The military has confirmed, on the record, that they have begun planning for such a thing.

I'm sure they could dig up a person from the Soviet era to help plan this even or failing that hire Kim-Jong un as a consultant he knows military parades.

One must ask the question: Will Cadet Bone Spurs award himself medals to wear on his suit jacket as the parade rolls by. Or, will he dawn a uniform like Kim-Jong un and pretend to be a "real" military officer.

Japanese AV star directs commercial in which Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un are best friends

Bonx, also marketed as Bonx Grip, is a Japanese-made communications device that blends the functionality of a mobile phone and a walkie-talkie. Clipped to your ear, the combination speaker/microphone filters out unwanted background noise and activates automatically at the sound of your voice, broadcasting it to the other Bonx users you’ve designated for your group chat session.
The device was originally developed with extreme and outdoor sports enthusiast in mind, but really it can be useful for anyone who wants to stay in close communication with someone who’s geographically far away. To demonstrate, Japanese adult film actress Mana Sakura, in her directorial debut, has created a video showing U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong-un becoming best friends through the power of Bonx.
