Implications of Russian ambassador's assassination

Russia and Turkey say the killing of Andrey Karlov in an Ankara art gallery will not derail reconciliation.

The rocky relations between Russia and Turkey seemed to be improving recently despite their differences on Syria.
The shooting of Andrey Karlov, Russia's ambassador to Turkey, in an art gallery in Ankara on Monday is again endangering their ties.
The assailant was an off-duty Turkish policeman who said he was angry about alleged war crimes by Russia in Syria.
Both the Russian and Turkish presidents said they would not let the assassination affect relations. But what are the long-term implications? And how does the death of the diplomat affect the war in Syria?
