Police officers will be stationed at strategic holding points around the country so they can “intervene early and … intervene hard” at short notice where violence flares in coming days, a senior police officer has said.

Sir Andy Marsh, chief executive of the College of Policing, which represents police forces in England and Wales, outlined the plan in an interview with Sky News on Wednesday afternoon, as the UK anticipates more widespread disorder.

The Guardian earlier reported that more than 6,000 public order trained officers would be on duty on Wednesday night, with officers from London and the south-east sent to the north-west and north-east where the worst violence is expected. Police intelligence said that more than 100 far-right led protests are planned.

Mob torches folk singer Rahul Ananda’s home as Bangladesh Hindus say they are under attack

Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council says mobs have vandalised over 200 Hindu homes and damaged over a dozen temples

Bangladeshi folk singer Rahul Ananda has said he narrowly escaped arson of his home as attacks on the Hindu minority spark fears of religious persecution in the restive south Asian country.

Mr Ananda, whose house in Dhaka was a cultural hub that hosted famous global figures, most recently French president Emmanual Macron, is one of the more prominent Hindus to have been targeted during the ongoing violence in the country.

Bangladesh is in the throes of a political crisis after mass protests against a controversial jobs quota swelled into an anti-government movement that forced prime minister Sheikh Hasina to flee the country earlier this week.

"The operation for the destruction of Ukrainian army units is continuing," the Russian Defense Ministry said on social media.

"The enemy's movement further into Russian territory has been prevented."

Lebanon will pay heavy price in war, Israeli defence minister says

Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has warned that Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah may drag Lebanon into a full-blown war, for which the country would pay a heavy price.

“As things stand, Nasrallah may drag Lebanon into paying extremely heavy prices. They can’t even imagine what might happen,” Gallant was quotes as saying to troops of the 646th Reserve Paratroopers Brigade by The Times of Israel.

“This may also deteriorate into a war. It’s not theoretical, it’s real,” he added, according to the Israeli newspaper.

Elon Musk sues Unilever and Mars over X 'boycott'

Daniel Thomas and Michelle Fleury

Elon Musk's X/Twitter is suing a group of advertisers and major companies, accusing them of unlawfully agreeing to "boycott" the site.

It has filed a claim against the food giants Unilever and Mars, private healthcare company CVS Health, and renewable energy firm Orsted - along with a trade association called the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA) - in a Texas court.

X claims they have deprived it of "billions of dollars" in revenue.

Legal experts say the case is unlikely to succeed as any collusion or agreement between companies will be hard to prove.
