Students help migrants discover French culture, language

A group of students at a prestigious French university have launched an initiative to assist migrants' integration into French society, by enlisting volunteers to help them in their discovery of French language and culture. Over the past year, volunteers with the project have worked with 40 migrants who want to continue their studies in France.

The programme is called PEI, which stands for “le Projet Étudiant Invité” or, in English, the “Student Guest Project”. More than 100 professors and students from the École normale supérieure (ENS) have volunteered with the project since it was founded. The organisers say that this kind of strategy needs to be put into action across France to welcome new arrivals and help integrate them into society.

The founders of PEI noted that while the migrants who have recently arrived France hail from different countries and have very different personal experiences, the majority of them wish to further their education. Many of them were studying at universities in their home countries before they left. The ENS decided to help some of these new arrivals pursue their education by inviting them to be “student guests” at the prestigious university

South Sudan government recruited child soldiers, UN says

The document says a senior politician appointed by President Salva Kiir led the recruitment of an entire village of boys using intimidation.

South Sudan's government has recruited child soldiers in the past week to prepare for a renewed conflict, according to an internal United Nations document obtained by The Associated Press.
The document says a senior politician appointed by President Salva Kiir led the recruitment of an entire village of boys using intimidation. Some were as young as 12 years old. It was not clear how many children were involved.
Armed groups in South Sudan often coerce children to join their ranks by threatening to confiscate their family's cattle, a key source of wealth and status in this pastoral society.

THE NSA LEAK IS REAL, SNOWDEN DOCUMENTS CONFIRM

ON MONDAY, A HACKING group calling itself the “ShadowBrokers” announced an auction for what it claimed were “cyber weapons” made by the NSA. Based on never-before-published documents provided by the whistleblower Edward Snowden, The Intercept can confirm that the arsenal contains authentic NSA software, part of a powerful constellation of tools used to covertly infect computers worldwide.
The provenance of the code has been a matter of heated debate this week among cybersecurity experts, and while it remains unclear how the software leaked, one thing is now beyond speculation: The malware is covered with the NSA’s virtual fingerprints and clearly originates from the agency.
The evidence that ties the ShadowBrokers dump to the NSA comes in an agency manual for implanting malware, classified top secret, provided by Snowden, and not previously available to the public.
