Benjamin Netanyahu has criticised massive street protests against his handling of the Gaza war, and failure to secure the release of remaining Israeli hostages, suggesting demonstrators were giving comfort to Hamas’s position in negotiations.
The Israeli prime minister made his comments against the backdrop of the largest protests in almost two years of war, with estimates that upwards of 400,000 people joined marches across Israel on Sunday.
Germany, Japan partner to face down 'aggressive' China

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul began his first trip in office to Japan by praising his host country as Berlin's "premium partner" in Asia, noting that Tokyo and Berlin share a "longstanding, deep and close friendship."
Wadephul, speaking alongside Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya, called democracy and adherence to the rule of law shared values, something he said was important in "a time of crises and conflict."

Iraqi authorities have begun excavating the site of a mass grave believed to contain thousands of victims of the Islamic State (IS) group near Mosul city, the project's director told AFP on Sunday.
The first phase, which was launched on August 10, includes surface-level excavation at the Khasfa site, director Ahmed al-Assadi said.
Survey: 54% of voters OK with Ishiba staying as prime minister

More than half of voters do not think Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba should resign despite his party’s resounding defeat in the Upper House election in July, an Asahi Shimbun survey showed.
Fifty-four percent of survey respondents felt no need for Ishiba to step down as prime minister, up from 47 percent in the previous survey conducted in July.
The ratio of those who think Ishiba should bow out was 36 percent, down from 41 percent in July.
