Israel kills an average 28 Palestinian children daily in Gaza
Israel has killed more than 18,000 children since the start of its genocidal war on Gaza.
Approximately 28 children are being killed daily in Gaza due to the ongoing Israeli bombardment and its restrictions on the delivery of direly needed humanitarian assistance, according to the United Nations.
“Death by bombardments. Death by malnutrition and starvation. Death by lack of aid and vital services,” the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said in a post on X on Tuesday.

Can a global treaty solve the plastics crisis?
More than 170 countries are negotiating a binding agreement to slash fossil plastic production and pollution. The oil industry claims we can recycle our way out of the problem.
After a failed attempt to finalize a global plastics treaty last year in Busan, South Korea, 170 countries are meeting in Geneva from today until August 14 to negotiate a binding agreement on reducing plastic waste.
Delegates will decide the extent to which plastic production should be limited and also the design, disposal and waste management of plastic across its whole lifecycle.
Worldwide, 413 million tons of plastic are produced annually, enough to fill over half a million Olympic swimming pools. Just 9% of this is recycled.
German far-right MEP's former aide goes on trial over China spy charges
Two suspected Chinese spies, including Jian Guo, a former aide to far-right German MEP Maximilian Krah, went on trial in Dresden on Tuesday. The high-profile case has sparked political controversy and could further embarrass the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party if it leads to the information Guo allegedly collected on the anti-immigration party becoming public.
Two suspected spies for China, including a former aide to far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) lawmaker Maximilian Krah, went on trial in the eastern city of Dresden on Tuesday.
Jian Guo, a German national, allegedly worked for Chinese intelligence from 2002, including while working in the Brussels office of Krah when he was an MEP between 2019 and 2024.
Guo, who denies the charges, is accused of passing more than 500 documents to Beijing, some deemed highly sensitive, as well as information about decisions and debates at the European Parliament.
Imran Khan’s party turns to UN as former Pakistan prime minister marks 2 years in prison
As Imran Khan endures growing isolation and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf faces a sweeping state crackdown, it is unclear how long the jailed leader’s resilience and popularity alone can sustain a party under siege, Maroosha Muzaffar reports
As Imran Khan completes two years in jail, his party is preparing to approach the UN with a new case alleging “torture” and “inhumane” treatment of Pakistan’s former prime minister and his wife in custody.
A UN human rights working group last year found the former leader’s incarceration to be arbitrary and unlawful and ruled the “appropriate remedy would be to release Khan immediately and accord him an enforceable right to compensation and other reparations, in accordance with international law”

Exclusive: Andrea Velez and Adrian Martinez recount their capture by immigration officers and its effects on their lives
As two masked men dragged her into an unmarked SUV, Andrea Velez tried to focus on details she might later remember – one man’s red shirt, the car’s leather seats, a black backpack inside.
At 9.20am on 24 June in downtown Los Angeles, the 32-year-old was heading into work at a footwear company when the men in gator masks jumped out of their car and started chasing vendors and other people on the street, she recalled. As people fled, Velez froze and held on to her bag.
