Only In Alabama Would Yoga Be Banned From Public Schools

That is a true statement.  In 1993 the Alabama state legislature passed a bill that not only banned the teaching of yoga in public schools but meditation as well.  But feeling that wasn't going far enough they also made it illegal to say namaste.   Of course the reason given for this ban on these offense practices was that they just weren't christian. Yes, yoga is associated with Hinduism that doesn't mean that those teaching it are surreptitiously trying to convert your children.  Unlike conservative christian,s who like nothing more than shove their religion right down your metaphorical throat.

Alabama could takes steps to lift a decades-old ban on yoga in public schools this week, but would keep a ban on the greeting “namaste” in place.
A bill brought by Representative Jeremy Gray, a Democratic legislator from Opelika, is on the proposed debate agenda Tuesday in the Alabama House of Representatives. If the bill passes with a two-thirds majority, it will then go to the Senate for further debate.
